Carvery style, good selection, helpful staff, wholesome cafe food. I have eaten here quite a few times, with family, friends and alone. They do a good lunch with plenty to choose from and their cakes & bread are wonderful

We stopped here for breakfast on our way out of Cavan. The staff was quit friendly, the breakfast was a little different, but good. Bacon and baked beans for breakfast are not quite what I am used to, but it was tasty. :)

The perfect place to stop and have a cuppa and some amazing cake. They have one of if not the best selection of cakes and desserts in town. Also great for lunch and the staff are always friendly.

Local bakery with lovely bread and cakes as you come in. The lunch is just a normal local dive - greasy chips/nuggets/sausages with selection of salad - such as cole slaw. It's OK for afternoon tea as the cakes and confectioneries are made on premise but stay clear of the hot food unless you like the calories.

The Melbourne is full of tempting cakes and pastries. Even if you are in for a simple cup of tea, it is hard to resist the temptations you must pass on your way to the service counter. Scones, cup cakes etc compete for your attention at the service counter alongside toasties and regular sandwiches. You can also have a heated... More

I used to work in Cavan town fifteen years ago and two or three times a week I would visit the Melbourne at around 10.30am. I would always have two slices of lovely brown bread and two ok sausages with brown sauce and a pot of tea. As I was making a rare daytime visit to the town recently I... More

If you are coming in off the bus, stop and get a scone and a coffee. All kinds of food, if you are watching the weight, give in and take a day off, to many goodies to choose from.

Nothing spectacular here. A basic county-town cafeteria. Decent cup of coffee; usual Irish fare for breakfast and lunch, i.e., nothing too adventurous. Always spotless. Friendly staff. Good value.

We always eat here. We have never had a bad meal. Food is home cooked and tasty. The restaurant is spotless. Staff are efficient. One of my favorite places to eat.

I find the food in this cafe ranging from okay to horrible, the coffee also is not very nice. The atmosphere and setting is old fashioned and dreary. However, it seems to hold a special place in the hearts of many locals and is a constant meeting place from some locals. Saying that there buns and cakes are quite nice... More
