A welcoming haven

I visited early evening for three days out of my four in Athlone. I couldn't have been made more welcome - an important consideration when on your own. The place has character and the ambience is really good. There is a good choice of locally brewed Irish bottled beers. The service was excellent... read more

Every time I am in Athlone I love to visit the left bank. The service, the food, the atmosphere and the wine are all excellent. We sat for the early bird this time. It was a Saturday evening too so it was lovely to be offered the early bird menu. Two courses for twenty euro. I had pigs on the... More

We arrived late and the place was packed! Thursday night and it was busy. We had been busy doing traveller things all day and we're looking for something yummy. My partner had lamb shank and I chose the Asian veg and noodles. Delicious and fast service. Our server was most friendly and helpful.

The pitch pine surroundings and grand (?) piano vie for attention with the quality food at this old town restaurant. The staff were excellent which always helps to impress. Not exactly the cheapest place in town but staff, surroundings and good food leaves you in a good mood on your departure. I would love to have heard someone tinkle those... More

Always great service. Very kind to my elderly mother, they always make a fuss of her when she comes in and it's one of her favourite places. It's always full and lively and the food is always good for lunch and dinner.

We were looking for a place to have dinner and we found this treasure in Athlone. It is not a cheap place however the food is worth every single cent we pay. Everything was simply delicious and the service was prompt, nice and helpful.

When we arrived, the restaurant had a huge group of at least 25 young women and we could not hear a word from each other, so we asked for a table in the bar, which turned out to be much nicer and at least 1 decibel lower. If you go and it's packed, do the same as the tables are... More
