I always visit here when in Athlone and consider it to be one of the best in the locality. The food is excellent, a good comprehensive menu, attentive and knowing staff and a reasonable wine list. The fact that this establishment has been in business longer than most other stand alone restaurants in Athlone must be due to a very... More

Not impressed. Was really looking forward to going but was very disappointed by the food. Found a hair in my bread and that put me off right from the start. The starter was ok. The main course was just ok. Went for our tenth wedding anniversary. The carafe of wine was 16 euro but they tried to charge 26...my meal...6oz minute... More

Attractive interior, friendly staff. The sandwiches were delicious and the desserts were amazing. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

My two children and I dined here very recently. Having heard so much about this restaurant we were eager to try it. I made the booking for a table of 3 earlier in the day. When we arrived we were not seated in the main part of the restaurant but in the front on our own (other diners arrived after... More

We had just arrived in Athlone and weren't holding out much hope for a good evening dinner........and then we found The Left Bank Bistro. It did not disappoint. Food was excellent and the service second to none. The girls were very helpful and talkative, including giving us the 'highlights' of Athlone, of which there aren't too many. Excellent food and... I can see why this restaurant is mentioned in so many guidebooks. However it seems like a neighborhood place and is not touristy. The food is wonderful. Had a three course early bird dinner for 25euros. Well worth the money.

Myself and my boyfriend have a thing for chicken wings and following another trip advisors recommendation we came to the left bank and it lived up to every expectation and some. I can't fault with anything. The chicken wings were amazing as were their beef burger and tandori chicken. Between their home made bread which was utterly melt in the... More

Very nice place in a great location. Food is great with a good selection of beers and wine. Can be a bit pricey though.
