We had just arrived in Athlone and weren't holding out much hope for a good evening dinner........and then we found The Left Bank Bistro. It did not disappoint. Food was excellent and the service second to none. The girls were very helpful and talkative, including giving us the 'highlights' of Athlone, of which there aren't too many. Excellent food and... I can see why this restaurant is mentioned in so many guidebooks. However it seems like a neighborhood place and is not touristy. The food is wonderful. Had a three course early bird dinner for 25euros. Well worth the money.

Myself and my boyfriend have a thing for chicken wings and following another trip advisors recommendation we came to the left bank and it lived up to every expectation and some. I can't fault with anything. The chicken wings were amazing as were their beef burger and tandori chicken. Between their home made bread which was utterly melt in the... More

Very nice place in a great location. Food is great with a good selection of beers and wine. Can be a bit pricey though.

A a wet and blustery August evening, we stumbled across this charming restaurant. This is simple food very well prepared and presented with a degree of style. it has a bistro feel about it with nice clean and uncluttered tables, and a large blackboard with the menu and specials of the day. We had the mussels as a started done... More

Well situated in old city with big windows and numerous delicious cakes that you can't easily decide what to choose as desert. Coffee was nicely served and well done.

Was in Athlone for one night recently with family and when looking for somewhere for lunch picked this bistro as I had eaten there before. It didn't disappoint and with delicious open sandwiches and salad, a bottle of while wine, we had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. When in Athlone I would suggest this is the only place to visit for... Dined in The Left Bank last Saturday night and had the tiger prawns to start and the most tender rump of lamb that I have ever had. My husband was what most restaurants would deem awkward as he has intolerances to certain ingredients, but the waitress was very helpful, kind and well informed on the menu and helped my husband... Stopped here for a bite to eat one lunchtime because the place looked really good on the outside. The place was busy but made to feel we added to the pressure. The menu was really good and food was equally as good. I had one major complaint, towards the end of our meal we had the company of a dog... More
