More than a bowl of soup

My wife & I decided to have a bowl of soup but changed our minds when we heard it was mushroom. That turned out to be a good decision as we ended up trying two of the daily specials. Both were superb. We shall return. Pity there is no gluten free bread.

We walked in on Valentines day at 7pm without reservation but the hostess made sure we were not turned away. The place seems to be very popular in Athlone as it was very busy all night. My boyfriend ordered half duck and I had prawns with egg noodles, we also had half bottle of red wine and Irish coffee and... More

We ate in the left bank for lunch. We found the food to be very good, tasty and presented very well. The service was very good and they have a good selection of Irish craft beers on offer, and a nice wine menu. The restaurant is nice and cosy and I would recommend it for a cosy lunch or romantic... We visit the Left Bank four or five times a year and we've never been disappointed. Food is excellent and service is always great. The menu is just about right with enough choices to satisfy most preferences and there is always a specials board to choose from as well. Had a nice meal and experience this time and will be... My wife and I recently spent a couple of days in Athlone, we had the great pleasure of eating at The Left Bank Restaurant, from entering to leaving we were treated with great warmth and great food, and at a reasonable price. Thanks to all the staff, we will be back. chris & Una. Co Kildare

Recently visited the left bank for an evening meal. Had the mussels for starters which were full of flavour. The steak was ordered for mains and without hesitation will say it was cooked perfectly and the nicest steak I've ever had(10oz sirloin). I finished off with a sticky toffee pudding which is a must if you enjoy luxury. Thoroughly enjoyed... More

At 1 o clock the items on the lunch menu were not available. The menu from blackboard was limited and boring eg Shepard's pie, chicken ticka, and white fish. Looked like a nursing home menu! Good for coffee and cake.

We live 20 miles from this bistro and travel once or twice a month to eat lunch. The food is consistently good. We don't eat meat but are well catered for with veg spring rolls, great salads, soups and sandwiches. There is a real feeling of great ingredients being used and care being taken. Nice surroundings too and staff are... More

We had our 44th wedding anniversary dinner here and it surpassed our expectations. Nice friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. We were even offered a complimentary drink because of the occasion

Over the years, I have found The Left Bank restaurant to be consistantly excellant both for food quality, presentation, service and value. It is situated on the left bank of the River Shannon, not quite on the river but a mere fifty or so metres away. It is particularly convenient for patrons going to the nearby Dean Crowe Theatre and... More
