BEST SEAFOOD CHOWDER ON THE PLANET

We had lunch here in Feb.,2015 and couldn't have been more pleased. The day was bitterly cold and rainy and as soon as we stepped into the tavern we felt the warmth of the fire blazing in the room. The seafood chowder was the best I ever had: it was chocked full of salmon, cod and other seafood... read more

Had a wonderful dinner in this warm, welcoming pub, on a cold winter night. The staff was very friendly and the food delicious. Had fish and chips and a side salad. Well-balanced and fresh. I will return whenever I am in Howth.

Went to Abbey Tavern after a day bus ride to Howth. We asked some locals and they recommended the Abbey for the fireplace. Very cool atmosphere. Guiness, Peat bogs in the fire, old wood, and a Guiness Stew to keep us warm. Bartenders were excellent. Did not open for lunch until 12;30 but she let us in to sit by... More

I took a trip to the Abbey Tavern on a Sunday afternoon with friends for a bite to eat, it was an unusual occurrence to be out and about on a Sunday afternoon minus kids, so we basically had the choice of any restaurant in Howth but unfortunately choose "The Abbey Tavern", honestly I have never experienced service as bad... We took a visiting friend here for a coffee to get in out of the rain. Though the venue was quite full, we were able to find seating. Along with tea, I ordered plain scones, cream and jam. The menu said "scones", so I was surprised when only one arrived. In any case, the scone that arrived was warm, which... More

Visiting friends again in Howth and stopped in to the Abbey. Have been there about 10 times now over the years. The atmosphere is great and the homey feeling. This time in Jan 2015 the food was disgusting. The chicken was not fully cooked, and the salad was sparse and lacked freshness. Not sure whats going on with the kitchen?... More
