Over cooked, inedible... No service, complete let down of all the choices in Howth you would think a place like the abbey tavern would deliver a good meal given the reviews....

Just in for dinner, for a place that use to have the best pub grub in Howth this is a shame...the fish and chips were over cooked, not edible, the chips were hard, Ceaser salad was more like soup, the chicken was dry, tavern club was dry,...I reframed from putting a review up the last time I was in, hoping... This is a warm, welcoming place to end the day or evening. John the barman is terrific -- funny and friendly, and helpful in choosing a special whisky. It's full of locals and very low-key. Good pub food, too.

Dropped in with my wife after a winter walk around Howth Head. This is a nice pub. It's friendly, welcoming and efficient. We stayed for some warm drinks at the bar and it was just what we needed. Very good hot chocolate. I think even if pubs aren't your usual thing you'll still feel very comfortable here. A nice little... More

Having learnt of the recent changes at the abbey tavern I thought it might be nice to treat my god daughter (and our families) to lunch there over christmas. I was surprised but delighted that this busy pub took reservations and we were seated en famille in a quiet part of the pub. Presents having been exchanged we were approached... More

While the food was delicious (must recommend the fish and chips and bangers and mash!) what should have been a quick meal took over two hours for our party of two. After 40 minutes of nobody coming to our table and scarce menus/waitstaff, we eventually grabbed a menu from another couple. Add 20 minutes to seek out a waitress to... More

It had been a while since my last visit and the open fire didn't disappoint. Sadly everything else did. My Guinness was average. My cod was the greasiest I've ever had (not that anyone asked...) and its been a long time since I was served up frozen chips, even as pub fare. Seafood chowder was decidedly so-so, as was the... went there on Saturday last for food and then the Luke Kelly Tribute. Bar was cosy and warm and the food was excellent. However when we went inside to the show there was no heat and most people kept their jackets & overcoats on. The show was great but to have people shivering on the coldest night of the year... More

Glad the no 1 on tripadvisor was full! Real roaring fires best chowder, best Caesar salad, best fish and chips (we all ordered differently). Onion rings on the side were too greasy to eat but all in all a 9 out of 10
