Long time devotees to FG as we live locally. East Cork has many eateries on par with anywhere but this is the best of the best. Unusually for a restaurant we have NEVER had other than a fantastic meal. The ambience in the FG is great ...local cut flowers, the dessert table, the old fashioned pharmacists cabinet ...bakery aromas all... More

Dropped in here for lunch today on a day trip to Cork. Having eaten here before it is always a treat and today didn't disappoint. We ate in the newly opened room and wow it was just amazing. Eating great food al fresco in the most beautiful surroundings is not very common in Ireland but the Farmgate has pulled this... More

Visited here last Saturday night as we were staying with family locally. Called late to see if there was availability as we got last minute babysitter offer. Although they couldn't take us at our preferred time, we opted for "the first sitting". Place has changed/grown a lot since our last visit 2 years ago which is unusual to see in... More

Having been to the Farmgate before, we were looking forward to visiting again whilst in town. We were shown to a different room which I didn't remember from last time and which our waiter later told us had opened only that night (phew). We had a brilliant night. There was a real buzz and ambiance and I loved the feel... More

We booked for 3 and were advised we would be in the newly converted courtyard as the main/old restaurant was full, we didn't mind as we love the ambiance of the old place and love the food and agreed...... How disappointing!! The place was full with tables squashed in anywhere they could, one unfortunately blocking a fire exit on the... More

We were invited by some friends to meet here for lunch. What a great choice! The food and service were both very good and the food was excellent. The dining area is behind a small grocery store area and is quite unusual. There is a diverse mix of tables and chairs and some of the tables are so large that... More

This is a small grocery store, with dining area in back. Lots of character, with rustic wood tables, lots of natural light, very friendly staff and great food. I had potato leak soup & a simple salad, both delicious. Then there are the desserts - dizzying array. We shared apple tart and chocolate cake.

myself and 3 work colleagues were wanting somewhere to eat locally and I had passed Farmgate during the day and thought it looked very welcoming, so I booked us a table for 8pm on Thursday. on arrival we had a friendly greeting and walked into the vibrant and welcoming restaurant which was brimming with a friendly vibe. the fish chowder... Great lunch at farmgate. Carrot and orange soup was nicely done (not too heavy on the orange) and farmgate club sandwich was super. More recently had the crab quiche which had some very fresh flavours. Some of the farmgate products are great (their salad dressing for example) but unfortunately I wouldn't recommend their coffee which I found very bland. Always... More

We'd had an excellent tea at the Farmgate in the English Market, so decided to try the 'real thing'. The food was really very very good (Tbone, two fish specials and a duck), including the veg - one of those meals when each component is so good you want to eat it on it's own. And wine (by the glass)... More
