Description: "Kenmare, in Co Kerry, has its unfair share of places to eat, but you'll miss one of its finest attractions if you confine yourself to the restaurants that feature in guide books. Wharton's Traditional Fish & Chips, in the town centre, is a gem. My cod was encased in the finest, lightest batter, into which crushed black peppercorns had been incorporated. It was so fresh I swear I saw it twitch as it hit the oil. The chips are hand-cut from potatoes that are, amazingly, chosen for their "fryability". And they have cider vinegar if you fancy a change from the stuff you usually get in chippers..." Tom Doorley (Irish Times)

We stumbled across this small place, and just fell in love with it! It's a must for us each time we visit Kenmare. Great fish, good prices, a low-key local place in town.

We searched high and low, tried every fish & chip place we came across (which is quite a few when touring Ireland!) Wharton's was the only place recommended by locals we met in the neighboring town of Kinsale - it was the first place we visited and by far the best... everywhere else paled in comparison! A must stop!

Lovely clean chipper with efficent and friendly staff. Really well prepared fish with lemon and tartar. Chips were good but a little too brown but still tasty. Not cheap but well worth the money.

We had actually planned to eat at another place in the same street, which we had checked out earlier in the day, but when we arrived it wasn't open. We took a bit of a punt anyway as they had no opening hours dispayed. However, it didn't matter as Whartons got our business instead. Delicious fish and chips, very reasonably... More

If you find youve over extended the budget , and you could easily in a place like kenmare where you have some of the finest eateries in the south, this is a very good break from restaurant standard .Good food at a reasonable price cooked freshly and even at that if you dont fancy taking it away you can still... Last night in Kenmare and we stopped by for some take out. What a great surprise. After almost two weeks of eating out in Ireland we found the best fish at Whartons. The portions are huge and the breaded cod was amazing. Best fish and chips I have had.

Best chip shop we have found since moving to Ireland! Great service and reasonably priced. Huge portions and great banter.
