Good plain food

Good basic fish and chips, nice fat chips, small cod was big enough for me. They were happy to refry the fish cakes for my husband who likes them almost burnt and good strong tea. Reasonable price. Was a it chilly with door open.

Called in for lunch one weekday. Really busy. But got seated easily. No frills chippy. Eat in and takeaway. Nice tasty food and quite inexpensive. See photo. Only 20p more to eat in than to takeaway. Would not hesitate to call again or to recommend it. Lovely.

Nice fish and chips had better but enjoyed all the same would buy again my only criticism is that the batter was greasy you can sit the park over the road to eat them.

I live in Bakewell and have an office near Matlock and eat out quite a lot. I have eaten here twice, at lunch time, and will not come back. Good fish chips, meaning good quality fresh fish and crisp chips made from good quality potatoes such as King Edward potatoes, is a real delight. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to... More

We always call in here during the Matlock illuminations season. The fish is delicious and the cod really is cod. They also do small cod and chips , and that is plenty big enough. The sit down part of the shop is always clean and inviting. The only downside is it can be hard to park right outside, but you... More

Food was delicious & cooked while we waited. The shop was heaving with customers but we didn't have to wait too long. Clean & tidy...staff kept on top of cleaning up. Staff were very polite. Will come again.

The best fish and chips I've had in a long time! We had the bargain meal of small fish and chips and mushy peas. It was late afternoon and empty but apparently we had picked the right time because it was very busy when we came in and very busy when we were leaving. Absolutely delicious for the price!

Decided to get fish and chips after a family day out. This place only takes cash, so had to go to cashpoint and get cash out - in this day and age I am amazed to see a cash only policy, but I understand it's up to them. Foodwise the chips weren't too bad but everyone agreed that the fish... More

The fish and chips were very good with good old fashioned bread & butter.Choice of beers was limited but perhaps we should have stuck with tradition and had a cup of tea? The only real gripe I have with the place is that the door is kept open (with a rope) so even when it's cold (and it was raining,... More
