Dinner - Tuesday to Saturday 6.30-9pm. Lunch - Wednesday to Saturday 12-2pm. Tucked away in the heart of idyllic Matlock, Derbyshire, Stones is a modern, eclectic restaurant with a stylish, welcoming interior and a superb modern British menu. The restaurant, which added a new riverside conservatory in May 2013, is jointly run by Kevin Stone, Head Chef, partner, Jade Himsworth and sister, Katie Temple. Stones' riverside conservatory overlooks the babbling River Derwent. The menus change seasonally to reflect the very best in local produce, and the wine to match the food. Stones' philosophy is to provide a fantastic dining experience in a relaxed setting. The dining room which is popular with couples, locals and visitors, is a perfect place for romantic, family or business meals. Stones has been awarded two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence.

Excellence in cuisine and friendly too

I took the wife here for a special meal, warning, you need to book! We started with the goats cheese and leek terrine which was very special. We then both had the Egg Parpadelli. Highly recommended.

Visited based on Trip adviser reviews, and we were staying locally . Top quality food. All courses ,were very nice. They could do with a small waiting area near the bar , as we arrived a little early ....but the staff were excellent and we enjoyed our visit a lot.

After visitng Stones in October we decided to make a return for my girlfriends 18th birthday last week. I can't fault the place, everything was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. I don't know what they do to the food here, it's ridiculous. Both times I've visited I've not been too sure about anything on the menu and ended up pretty... More

We'd heard about the great food at Stones and the fact that the first free Saturday night booking is now in June would seem to confirm that so we booked for a Thursday night out and hoped it met expectations. After three courses and a bottle of win all I can say is WOW. We have eaten at all the... More

I visited this restaurant with a client and cannot rate it highly enough. Top quality food, decent sized portions and presented very well. Nice attention to detail, particularly with the petit chocolates at the end of meal; they tasted and looked home made. Pleasant staff and a wonderful location overlooking the river. Two of us for £55 inc. tip...absolutely spot... More

We went to Stones for our engagement anniversary... Wonderful food again, a compact and elegant menu... Staff always attentive... The setting is perfect! As our local restaurant, were so lucky to have a chef who understand s cooking and marrying flavours perfectly! Thanks to Stones, for another wonderful meal, will be booking again soon! My wife and I visited last Friday evening. We had booked a few weeks in advance. The restuarant is only small and it was busy. It is situated right next to the river, and it must be really nice to eat outside in the summer!! Staff were friendly and service was excellent. We could not fault the food at all.... More

This restaurant has received several good reviews and awards so thought we would try it out for lunch. It was more of a spur of the moment thing so hadn't booked, nevertheless, we were welcomed and shown to a lovely table with a great view towards the bridge and river. Set price lunch (£18 two and £22 for three courses)... More

I have been to Stones three times now and have enjoyed each visit. Would recommend it but I do wish the food portions were just a little bigger. It isn't a cheap restaurant and I think the portions are too small.

We visited Stones Restaurant on Friday 27th March for a celebration meal. The Restaurant is situated down a steep set of stone steps, off Dale Road and sits within a cellar area of the building. The Restaurant is small and intimate with efficient and friendly Staff. We were greeted upon our arrival and taken to our reserved table. The menu... More
