Dinner - Tuesday to Saturday 6.30-9pm. Lunch - Wednesday to Saturday 12-2pm. Tucked away in the heart of idyllic Matlock, Derbyshire, Stones is a modern, eclectic restaurant with a stylish, welcoming interior and a superb modern British menu. The restaurant, which added a new riverside conservatory in May 2013, is jointly run by Kevin Stone, Head Chef, partner, Jade Himsworth and sister, Katie Temple. Stones' riverside conservatory overlooks the babbling River Derwent. The menus change seasonally to reflect the very best in local produce, and the wine to match the food. Stones' philosophy is to provide a fantastic dining experience in a relaxed setting. The dining room which is popular with couples, locals and visitors, is a perfect place for romantic, family or business meals. Stones has been awarded two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence.

The couple that oown and ru. This little jewel next to the river are amazing. The atmosphere is great and the service is as good as the food excellent. We try and go every couple of months. We're going back for our 27 wedding anniversary. Can't wait!

The food at this restaurant is simply stunning. There is nothing within miles that comes anywhere close. There is a lovely atmosphere here, with attentive and caring staff. You can enjoy an aperitif on the terrace which overlooks the River Derwent while you choose you dining options. On a sunny evening its a lovely place to relax. The food is... More

There are many good aspects to this restaurant - the staff were excellent, the outside seating area is lovely on a Summer's day, the canapes were really tastey. But the food itself was disappointing - very nicely presented but on our visit the food just did not have the 'wow' factor expected and was pretty average. Certainly not as good... More

Once again we visited our favourite restaurant for our wedding anniversary dinner. As usual we enjoyed three delicious, beautifully presented courses with complimentary hors d'ouvres and lovely home-made chocolates and coffee to finish. The lime-cured salmon starter and John Dory main course were excellent. My lime parfait dessert was delicious. My wife's creme brulee was the best she's ever tasted.... More

My favourite restaurant. (Not been everywhere). I like food and the whole long evening dining experience. Well you certainly get that at Stones, from the pre dinner drinks on the terrace, over looking the river Derwent just under Matlock bridge, with mini fish and chips in a shot glass (try it!!) to home made popcorn or whatever else has been... We ate here on the recommendation of our hosts at the Old Shoulder of Mutton in Winster. What a fantastic restaurant. We sat on the terrace with a cocktail first, where we were served tasty appetisers. We then sat in the conservatory for our meal. Both our starters were perfect. Each mouthful of our main meals was amazing as was... More

Excellent food served by friendly waiters/waitress. Only minor fault was the cheeseboard, the cheese was obviously directly from a fridge which did not enhance the flavours. Being very picky as in the main the food was excellent.

Dear 240mags Thank you for our notes on our food. Our cheese it chilled to temperature recommended by suppliers which we will happily talk to them about. Regards, Jade Stone Owner, Stones More
