Lunch at Byways in Bakewell

We chose Byways because of the board outside which said fresh fish not frozen. It certainly was fresh and lovely. Haddock in local beer batter chips and peas £7.95. Really enjoyed. We had a little wait but everything g cooked to order so worth the wait.

Had a great breakfast here on a busy Saturday. We were greeted by pleasant staff and directed to one of several charming dining rooms, decorated in a rather Georgian style. Tea even came with extra hot water - the sure fire way of getting a good review from me! Coffee was good too. If I had to pick a fault,... More

Popped into Byways unable to decide between the Haddock and chips or breakfast but we decided on the latter. The cafe is up a steep stairs which could be a challenge for some people. I liked the old feel of the building probably Georgian and the furnishings to match. The staff were friendly and efficient. The breakfast was very good,... More

Very good value.Lovely cakes,a decent cup of tea .Very quick and friendly service.Only one thing may put people off is that you have to climb a flight of steep stairs to get there but it certainly is worth it.Several quaint rooms with traditional furnishing. A lovely cosy atmosphere

Disappointed with lunch at Byways. I ordered the soup of the day which I assumed would be home made. It turned out to be tinned minestrone soup which was awful. When the waitress took the order she offered me garlic bread instead of the roll that came with the soup But when paid I was told that garlic bread was... More

a little gem of a cafe/restaurant tucked away in Bakewell, with an interesting history. It is accessed via stairs, so not suitable for disabled. You are greeted by a very friendly waiter, and ushered through a series of interconnecting rooms, on a very springy carpet. The food is freshly prepared and very reasonable priced. We shall have to return to sample the... More

Nice to find a tearoom trapped in a time warp! The walls are covered in gilt edged paintings, figure busts adorn the shelves and antique furniture is dotted around the many small rooms in this upstairs only establishment. Had a couple of toasted sandwiches which where generous and tasty. Recommended for a visit if you can manage the stairs!

The first thing you notice when you enter is the state of the tables... not sure if this is a good thing or not! Staff are clearly busy but I think it's important for a manager to keep on top of cleaning tables and organising staff. This aside, I have to say that the young man who served us on... More

Looking for a quick bite to eat on visiting Bakewell, after a look round we came across this little gem. Excellent menu choices and very reasonable price, the young staff members knew their stuff and service was top marks. Definitely back for a second visit.
