Nice old character pub with good food

We got some drinks and sat out in the garden which was very pleasant. You order food from the bar and we went for a Sunday Roast. I had soup to start then roast chicken with stuffing and veg. All very good and tasty. My Husband had the beef and said that was good too. Staff friendly and service... read more

This evidently popular eatery is a good choice if you're staying locally - interesting menu, pleasant staff, and HUGE portions - don't have a starter unless you are really hungry! I'm not sure it would still win the accolade of being among the ten best places to eat outside London which it won in 2008, but perfectly satisfactory nonetheless.

Visited three times recently and had something different on each occasion. All meals were good quality and value for money. It is worth booking as it was very busy, particularly on Tuesday when I think a number of other local places close.

We hadn't booked but a table was quickly found for us. The food was great and the mixed grill was enormous. Would recommend.

Friends took us here on a recent visit to Bakewell. Expecting the usual type of pub menu we were pleasantly surprise by the range of food on offer. We all choose something different and every dish was voted a hit. My only complaint would be that, even after only having a main course, I couldn't eat all my dessert! We... More

We visited the Ashford Arms with friends. Always a popular choice when deciding where to go. It is located in the beautiful Village of Ashford in the Water just outside Bakewell. We had four different main courses, such was the choice on offer, two from the Main Menu and two from the Specials Board. With all selections there was a... More

Me and my family had gone out to celebrate so decided to book in here, although it did take me several attempts to book in as no-one seems to like answering the phone. However when we got there the food was really tasty, I had steak stuffed with Stilton and wrapped in bacon topped off with a madera sauce- WOW... More

Gorgeous pub with great food and service and good selection of ales. Steak night is unbelievable value and the food is delicious, We visit quite often and even when it's packed the service is perfect, a really lovely place to visit

We booked the Ashford Arms for a Sunday lunchtime meal for our wedding anniversary, after hearing good reports. I have to say, if you want just a good wholesome traditional Sunday lunch it is great! The meat was beautiful (and believe me I can be funny!), the vegetables all fresh, the Yorkshire pudding is to die for and lively rich... More

Despite being recommended this was a disappointing trip. The carrot and coriander soup was way way too sweet.
