Friendly people and good atmosphere

We had a pub meal one Friday early evening, plenty of drinkers at the bar and a few reserved tables. This is a country pub with atmosphere and good beer too. No pretensions at all. The steak and ale pie was excellent with short crust pastry and a generous portion. The whitebait was ok, possibly not... read more

This is a fairly typical British pub. There's nothing on the menu to frighten the horses, nothing with "jus" or other fancy terminology. It does what it does and does it well. Perfectly acceptable if you're looking for somewhere unpretentious with good, home-cooked food.

We visited here several times during our weekend in Ashford In The Water. The staff and locals were very friendly and the food was good. The beer garden at the back was welcome on a hot summers day with fantastic views.

Not worth the wait, literally. Called in for a quick sandwich on a Friday lunch time in early July and had to wait an hour and twenty minutes before asking the waitress about the delay, then told it would be another five! A long wait for a very mediocre sandwich. Hate to think what happens when it's really busy!

The Bulls Head is a great little pub situated just outside of Bakewell. It serves great pub food and good beers at reasonable prices. The service is friendly and it deserves its good local reputation.

When we first arrived the pub was very busy and the service was slow (this was due to a large group booking, not the fault of the staff), but I was on the verge of being put off, however on a Sunday night there were no other options. I'm very glad we waited though, because the food was amazing. We... More

This little pub has a very homely feel, great beer, lovely garden and good food. It would appear to be the preferred pub for locals and as such is friendly and with plenty of chat. Recommended.

We had Sunday lunch here, our party consisted of 3 adults and 3 children, we had booked and were made to feel most welcome, the menu was quite extensive and reasonably priced, all main meals could be ordered half sized this gave extra choice for the children. all the meals were home cooked and of generous proportions. Over all we... More

We booked a table for Sunday lunch. We went with three children under 7. The food was lovely, and they really accommodated for the children. There was a high chair, and they did half portions of the adult main meals for the children. In the toilets they had a small toilet seat for the toddler and a stool for the... More
