Great beer and good food

This little pub has a very homely feel, great beer, lovely garden and good food. It would appear to be the preferred pub for locals and as such is friendly and with plenty of chat. Recommended.

When we first arrived the pub was very busy and the service was slow (this was due to a large group booking, not the fault of the staff), but I was on the verge of being put off, however on a Sunday night there were no other options. I'm very glad we waited though, because the food was amazing. We... More

We had Sunday lunch here, our party consisted of 3 adults and 3 children, we had booked and were made to feel most welcome, the menu was quite extensive and reasonably priced, all main meals could be ordered half sized this gave extra choice for the children. all the meals were home cooked and of generous proportions. Over all we... More

We booked a table for Sunday lunch. We went with three children under 7. The food was lovely, and they really accommodated for the children. There was a high chair, and they did half portions of the adult main meals for the children. In the toilets they had a small toilet seat for the toddler and a stool for the... More

We ate here as a party of 7 having made sure that we had booked a table. We would never have got in if we hadn't booked. The food was lovely, but they had run out of a few things (eg new potatoes) which was a bit of a disappointment. The people who had pies were impressed that they were... More

So you might have to make a reservation and you might have to wait a while but it's really well worth it. The. white bait was wonderful - lightly battered and a huge portion. The chicken pie was delicious and my husbands burger was cooked exactly to order which is rare these days. As for the beer, well you couldn't... More

ThIs is a true local very full of people from the village and one should book to reserve a table. The atmosphere is great and very friendly. The food is good but not outstanding, the service is a bit slow if they are busy. As to the two pubs in the village it is a question of head versus heart.... More

Fabulous family get together the The Bull's Head on Saturday night. Twenty or so family members gathered together in the Tap Room for a 50th birthday party. Kate and George could not be more accommodating - room decorated with balloons and banners and plenty of delicious homemade food. We agreed on Goats cheese tartlets with bread and olives to start,... We were camping at Chatsworth for the horse trials and as we couldn't get a table local decided to drive to Bakewell but all the pubs seemed to be drinking pubs, so headed back home for beans on toast but hubby decided to hang a left towards Ashford and yippee we found the Bull, it was full but ordered a... Amazing food - whitebait and garlic mushroom starter followed by delicious pies. Big portions. Great wine list. Very good service and all handily placed for our B&B
