We have been going to Hillers regularly for many years for lunch, coffee, scones, cakes etc. The food is excellent and, though slightly more expensive than some cafés, good value for money. Service can be on the slow side, so don't go for a quick lunch, but always very polite and welcoming. It's so popular it's wise to book even... More

A group of four we chose the venue for its informal and attractive setting. Service was slow and after the meal the waitress explained that they were down on staff that day. The glass of wine arrived at the end of the meal as it had been forgotten. Profuse apologies. The food itself- baked hake and duck salad for us,... More

We experienced very poor service. It was sarcastic, cold and and, frankly embarrassing to our family. We appreciate that we had arrived 30 minutes before closing time. But, in, say, the US, closing time would not be 1700. We weren't greeted, welcomed or valued by the staff. As it happened, it was a special occasion. We had had been looking... More

A pleasant place for a slow pace for lunch, with garden to look at afterwards and purchase in season plants

Treated my mom and dad to a Father's Day meal at Hillers this week. It has become one of those places you can rely 100% on for a good meal. Great value and one of the loveliest gardens to visit in the UK. The menu is small and may not set your imagination on fire, but what they do is... More

Three of us were in the vicinity so decided on a late lunch here.I had a coronation chicken baguette & 2 cappuccinos. This came with a well presented & dressed salad, some quality crisps .Really tasty & good value for money. The other 2 people with me also had very tasty sandwiches and soup. Great setting in Garden Room and... More

Popped in for a catch up with a friend, sat outside as it was a beautiful day. My friend went inside to order drinks but the waitress said she's come to us. All service received was attentive and helpful. Looking forward to a return visit.

Not our first visit here but our daughter loves the miniature steam railway which is great value for how long the ride goes on for. The restaurant serves up quality food and the staff are pleasant and efficient. We also enjoy buying local produce in the outstanding farm shop.

Went with a reasonably large party and whilst the the food was great the service was slow and disjointed leaving people waiting to start food, also took ages to get drinks. I would go again with the hope they look at managing the floor service at little better.

We went to Hillers yesterday to celebrate Mothers' Day, and really wish we hadn't. The place was heaving and we felt that the staff just couldn't cope with the number of people they had booked in. We were eventually shown to our table, then had to wait ten or more minutes for someone to notice us. They took our drinks... More
