I recently visited the red lion with my family, it is a large gastro pub with separate dining area and a cosy atmosphere. Service was brilliant and the cost of the food was reasonable for the good quality. It was hard to pick from the menu as there were so many mouthwatering dishes from posh sandwiches to pizzas and many... More

I was here with family today and was very impressed with the food and wine. i had prawn, crab and chorizo linguine--yummy. The rest of the family had pizza, fishcakes, chicken, ham and mushroom pie. It was all enjoyed. The only negative comment was not enough ham in the pie. I had a gorgeous passionfruit tart and the others had... More

We visited for lunch today and were surprised by the variety and quantity available on the menu. From sharing platters, starters, main courses, hot sandwhiches, pizza's and super puds, you really can build a meal of any size and shape you want....light snack or a three course meal. Great idea to have a smaller pudding and hot drink combo, (for... More

We had a lovely meal here at The Red Lion in Welwyn on Saturday night, as usual atmosphere was good. The menu seemed to have changed since last time visited to a more varied menu- I had scallops for starter which were nice and Seabass was delicious for main can def recommend with a lush chocolate desert to finish. The... More

A very lovely pub inside and out, when we arrived we asked for a table the advice was to look at the menu first as there had been a few items crossed off the menu, we decided to stay, we were shown to our seats after waiting 10 -15 mins while three members of staff stood chatting we were asked... Went for mid week lunch. The restaurant wasn't very busy and we were seated quickly. We ordered ham, egg and chips and a vegetarian pizza. The ham etc look and according to my husband was fine but the pizza was tepid like it had been sitting. We both had a dessert, crumble and custard which was nice and an apple... More

Always have a lovely time at the Red Lion. Service is friendly and quick, food is beautiful! The lamb is always a winner. Good selection of wine. Can't wait to eat out again.

My wife and I went with friends recently to the Red Lion, a pub we last went to in 2006. It has certainly changed since then. It is more upmarket and clearly aims to provide quality food at reasonable prices. We had booked beforehand and were shown to our table immediately. The restaurant was very busy so there was a... We took the parents to the Red Lion for dinner, the food tasted great especially the salmon salad and garlic chicken however portions are on the small side especially for the price. We were left waiting quite a while in between courses which wasn't great and although the pub is beautifully decorated the tables and chairs are not a comfortable... More
