Warm welcome in traditional pub.

Really enjoyed our visit to this lovely traditional pub buried in the Monmouthshire countryside. Our food was fresh and good.

Lovely Sunday, so we thought we'd have a walk in Coed-y-Bwnydd (known locally as bluebell wood) and it seemed sensible to visit the nearby Black Bear afterwards. I'm genuinely glad we did! Bettws Newydd is a tiny hamlet nestling among trees on a hillside above the River Usk, at its centre this old inn which has bags of character. The... More

Lunch - Fish finger sandwich with triple cook chips, very nice indeedie. Sat outside in the beer garden with half a stowford and wished we cold stay there longer :). Staff were very friendly. Will be returning to experience a Saturday evening meal soon.

One of the "have to" in Wales :-) Great atmosphere, really tasty dishes - the menu is not so extensive but everything fresh and tasty... And the sweets... Missing it would be great mistake :-)

Really good Sunday Lunch. Roasted pepper and tomato soup to start, exceptionally tasty. Evening menu looks really interesting so would definitely like to go back and sample more of the menu. They are not open every day and not on a Sunday evening so I would recommend ringing to book. Extremely friendly and welcoming, really nice pub. Landlady recommended some... More

A lovely little country pub with an inviting log fire and a warm welcome from the owners. Our food was very well made and presented. My only fault was that the portion sizes were a little small for the price (£13 for a roast beef dinner), which is not what you'd expect from a country pub.

Stopped by this restaurant today with my wife - we had a jaunt through the country lanes and decided remembered this restaurant after going there a few years ago. The food is delicious, the front of house staff (owner) is a delight to talk with and it's set in some of the most picturesque countryside you can find in Wales.... More

Whilst staying in cottage near black bear we visited for dinner on a weekday evening, owners were lovely and happy to have a chat. The food we had was fantastic both had three courses and it was very well presented and cooked perfectly. Thanks for a lovely evening in a beautiful village.

Hidden away off the beaten track we went for an evening meal at the Black Bear inn and were greeted delightfully by Ray. The pub is lovely and warm and friendly with a friendly atmosphere, frequented by locals and visitors alike. The menu is not excessive but covers most tastes and the food is beautifully prepared and presented, very tasty... More

A lovely old inn situated in the country, stumbled across The Black Bear Inn by chance, driving through the lanes between Usk and Raglan. Visited today for Sunday lunch. A really nice welcome from the lady behind the bar, a warm cosy place if you have sight of the open fire blazing with logs. The menu was adequate, very good... More
