We met up here for an evening meal with four other friends. Having read previous reports we expected the worst but were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted with a very friendly welcome. The portions were generous and the food was tasty, hot and home made. It's not to die for but it was good quality pub grub. We would definitely... More

First visit since the change of ownership and refurbishment. Glad to see that they still allow dogs in the bar area. Had lunch with a work colleague and we both had the Carvery. The food was okay, except for the brussel sprouts which had a bitter taste. Slightly better than a Toby Carvery, but then more expensive.

Have eaten in The Botany 3 times in the last couple of months. Each time met with a smile, orders promptly taken, food very tasty and nicely presented. Re-furbishment gives a nice relaxing feel to the place.

We've stopped at the Botany Baye on our way to Dorset for years, usually encountering a new set of landlords each time with varying degrees of success. Hall & Woodhouse have now taken over here and refurbished the pub - in doing so they've added a carvery. We dropped in for lunch and met the latest landlords who were very... More

Stopped off there today for lunch on a Saturday. Place was nearly deserted which should gave told us something. Staff were polite enough, perhaps a little vague. Food choice was fair, but when it was brought 3 out of 4 meals were very poor. Chicken pie seemingly made by marinating chicken in packet soup. A only partly cooked quiche and... More

Stopped off on a long journey to get a quick bite to eat - noticed that it was a carvery but instead of travelling a bit further on we made the mistake of going in. Strange way of ordering food then having to sit down and wait to be called to the carvery (when the place was nearly empty). Given... More

Lovely food, Sandra is a star and we ate here 3 times on our trip. Easy to walk to from Winterbourne Zelston and Hilltop barn but plenty of parking if you are on the A31. Closed Monday night though. Good value and the carvery was excellent for the meat eaters amongst our group.

We had been travelling for some hours and were in need of some lunch. We saw the Botany Bay and stopped there. We had our small whippet with us and checked that it was ok to take him in. The staff were not particularly welcoming but waved us over to some bar seats - which is fair enough. Then things... More
