Met a local right off the ferry who recommended Bakfickan. Great seafood and a friendly server who was happy to accommodate a gluten allergy - they even had gf toast to serve! We shared smoked shrimp appetizer, I had lobster and my husband had the fish soup. All were delicious. Charming ambiance as well.

A tiny, unassuming place in Stora Torget. Every time we go here I start to crave the homemade pickled herring, fried herring with mash and butter, handmade ligon, pickles and salads. It is usually just a cook and a waitperson staffing the place - but they are fun, young people who know what they are doing and love it. Little... More

This place is in the center of Visby, and is very small -- so get there early! We had some of the most delicious seafood that we have ever eaten here, though, and the atmosphere was wonderful. We sat outside on a big picnic table, and ate until we couldn't eat anymore! I ordered shrimp, and they came out in... More

This is the place you often return to. Why? Because: Excellent atmosphere. Excellent food, Very good service and moderate prices. You often meet your friends here of the same reasons. The location is in the centre of Visby at the main square. My favorite meals are the fishsoup and the "strömming" done in the local way.

in our three days stay in Visby, we went there twice for dinner - this shows, that we liked it... :-) very nice and friendly staff, good food (fish) not the most elegant place but cosy... if one thing to critizise: usually it takes some time to get a table - in this respect the staff was maybe a bit... We were really looking forward to lots of fish on this Swedish island but with the demise of the fishing industry, there was little to be found. However, we found one that turned out to be one of the best meals of our entire 1 month trip in northern Europe. Bakfickan was so good that we went twice over our... More

This casual chic terraced restaurant on Visby's main square does everything right and clearly deserves their number one rating on TA. The location is ideal, not on the eastern or northern edge of Stora Torget (too much heavy pedestrian traffic), instead Bakfickan is nestled on the southern edge of the square where it's more intimate and serene. Alma our waitress... More

Stopped into this restaurant while on a port of call for the Baltic Sea cruise we were on with Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas. Visby for those of you who don't know it is a small town on the island of Gotland in Sweden. This is where many of the Swedes have their summer cottages. A very quiet place... More

As you pass by Bakfickan, you may think: "Hmm, is this the one...", but once you sit down, taste some of the bread, glass of wine, toast skagen, catch of the day or other hot picks from the menu, you will want to come back. Extremely lockee, like being in your granny's kitchen. They also find a good spot for... More

Excellent and affordable food. Long wait (45 min or sometimes more) as they take no reservations after 6pm. They take reservations before 6pm. Stromming was good and I liked the salty gherkins in the jar, that come as complementary to your fish.
