There are many lovely grotti in the Ticino, where hosts serve simple fresh food, lovingly prepared. This is not one of them. The service took forever and was unfriendly. Salami as a starter, lovely. The salad had seen better days, dried out and curling on the edges,. The pasta dish though cooked al dente, tasted of Maggi and salt and... More

An unforgettable dining experience, highly recommended! Incredible food and service. A homely feel and a must for all foodies. It's not only about the food itself but about the whole grotto experience :)

Luckily I had read the other reviews and we knew exactly what we were getting ourselves in to, and it was better than our wildest expectations. We arrived around 8:00 and we were escorted through the kitchen to the end of a long table with two other couples. When we sat down, a big basket of bread arrived and soon... More

You will experience a great, informal Ticino ambiance, you won't get every day. No menu, you will be served typical Italian food, that is very good. You only pay what you eat for. Some of the food will be passed around on boards, and you are able to cut yourself whatever and how much you want. Usually you will be... More

Please go there when you are in Ascona. When you are not too fuzzy about super service and normal rules but want good ticinese food with tons of fun- go and enjoy. Mauro with wife and ex-wife and daughters of whoever do the cooking and the service in an unique osteria not far from the piazza. You have to eat... More

We were told about this place but had no name, so we strolled through the backalleys of Ascona and have obviously found it! The real deal, the maui-waui, the cream, the bling, the nipple, the scratch, the hash, the erb, the muff, the fluffy donut, the whimsical tranny, the flowerpower, the popess, the djunglesplurge; in one word; the most Indian... A great place with excellent variety of Ticinese specialties! BUT too much food for us ladies! Too many courses, but the guys love it! Pasta is usually excellent...and their risotto or polenta with meat/veal tops. The ciccoria salata con pomodoro is five star! Try the Ticino Merlot! Good value, good wine. Enjoy...always great fun with a group of people! But... More
