Sunday. Battled queues to get up there. Cable car filled with more parasols than people. Most crowded mountain top ever (especially with para sailers). Completely crowded restaurant. But we were persistent and managed to move onto a vacating table while the seats were still warm. Hunt down waitress, only can order drinks. They arrive promptly. Longer to track waitress again... Having lived in eastern Switzerland for 3 years now, only now did I make it to Aescher Restaurant on Ebenalp. I had seen many photos of this place and was really looking forward to the view, walk and lunch. Let`s be honest, Swiss hospitality is not a strong point in Switzerland so my expectations are always moderate to begin with... More

A picture of this place is what led us to plan a holiday in Switzerland this summer. We decided in the end not to stay there (dormitory-style accommodation not appealing to us as a family). Instead we opted to stay at the nearby (relatively) Seealpsee Berggasthaus which had private rooms. But we made Aescher a stop for lunch on our... More

What made this restaurant so unique and worth coming to is its natural setting. It is tucked into a cliff and you get a fantastic view of the Säntis and the Hoherkasten. Besides the wonderful view, the famous Rösti served at the restaurant is really very good. It comes in many variations, full portion, half portion with 2 eggs, or... More

Visited the Aescher in June of 2014 with family of 8 in total. After hiking a little over an hour the view and the location is breathtaking. The meals were not just good, the were awesome, amazing and in an atmosphere that is unmatched! Especially the local Roesti (Fried Potato galette) is out of this world, it is a great... More

A fascinating spot in the mighty mountains of Switzerland. I read about it and I had to see it myself. It's a great place with a fantastic view. Be aware the weather conditions can change because of the mountains, so take something extra with you. The only way to get there is walking. You can't go there by car, bike... More

Who would not enjoy a meal and something to drink when hiking in the Swiss mountains? The Aescher offers all that in a wonderful atmosphere, surrounded by breathtaking views of the Alpstein. In my opinion this is a must see experience while you are in Switzerland and every step up the step mountain slopes is worth while. Just do it... More

Berggasthaus Aescher-Wildkirchli is a 170-year-old guest house and restaurant tucked into the side of a mountain in Alpstein, a subgroup of the Appenzell Alps. We went there for lunch one day with friends, and loved every second of it. The journey to the restaurant is what makes this experience unique. Once you get to the top by cable car, the... More

It takes effort to find this place. Drive to Wasserauren. Take the lift to ebenalp and then get ready to hike 30 minutes or so thru a prehistoric cave dwelling, old church, and alongside the mountains edge. It is best on a clear day we are told. The day we went it was snowing sideways, blowing 30 Mph at the... More

What a location! Just fantastic! The food, especially the roeschti matches the views.. really, must taste the roeschti... it's the best I've ever had.. bar none! And the views are some of the best you get in alpstein. Everything is lovely but I don't recommend sleeping there for a night.. unless you want to party all night long and not... More
