Ganz nach unserem Motto:,,Gepflegte und bodenstandige Gastlichkeit mit Niveau"The history of the restaurant and restaurant brewery "zum Ritter"at Schlossplatz 1 in Schwetzingen dates all the way back to 1831.Its unique location, directly opposite the entrance to Schwetzingen Castle, with its Rococo theatre and Germany's most beautiful Baroque castle gardens, the "Ritter" enjoyed fame beyond the boundaries of Schwetzingen even back then.In 1997 the "Schwetzinger Brauhaus zum Ritter" was founded, with the declared aim of continuing this ancient brewing tradition. This was preceded by the purchase of the historic building, which, after rebuilding and renovation that was subject to the strict requirements governing historic buildings, was reopened on the 14th of July 1998.A new addition was a complete brewery, which has since then enabled us to offer our guests home-brewed, naturally unfiltered beers fresh from the cellar at all times. This is no industrially or mass produced beer, but is a beer with a distinctive taste that is brewed in full view of our guests, manually and traditionally according to old monastery recipes passed down through the centuries and in strict accordance with the "Reinheitsgebot", the German beer purity law, which dates back to 1516, accompanied by top quality regional, seasonal and international cuisine, true to our slogan:"Sophisticated and down-to-earth hospitality with class".

Besides good food and beer, the outdoor seating is right in front of the Schwetzingen Palace. I recommend eating a full meal and then taking a stroll through the palace gardens. If you prefer, there is indoor seating, but on my visit today everyone was sitting outside. Even though the weather was hot at lunch, we were shaded by the... More

After a visit to the gardens we chose the Schwetzinger Brauhaus zum Ritter at random and were very thankful that we did. The view from the outside tables is lovely and made the perfect choice for a spot of relaxation after so much walking! The traditional dishes we sampled (goulash and pork loaf) were tasty but the highlight was the... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by two of the asparagus vendors with stalls in the plaza. We had come to Schwetzingen for the spargel and the schloss garten. Neither was disappointing. The restaurant is in the plaza opposite the castle entrance. Lots of outdoor tables with umbrellas where we ate as it was a beautiful sunny day so I... More

Excellent location, with wide range of seating options, outside / umbrellas or inside in rustic bar or restaurant. Children welcomed. 2 beers light and dark which are brewed on site both lovely. Only slight downside smoking is permitted in bar area.

After touring the castle, our group had an arranged lunch here and it was great. Excellent beer (of course) and a big surprise to me, great steaks, even more surpising since it was a large group and yet the steaks were cooked perfectly.

This is a fair deal in great location just opposite the Schloss. Giant menue and portion size undermine quality of food though. Friendly, rustic service. Experience traditional German cuisine...

On a prime corner on a broad boulevard just opposite the Schwetzingen Schloss, this restaurant offers a very comfortable outside dining experience on a on a large outdoor cafe. Food was good and beer excellent. You can linger and relax in a peaceful setting. They brew their own highly rated beer. Can't miss!

Service was indifferent to say the least. We sat down outside for lunch ,waited patiently for a waiter, fifteen minutes passed then a waiter noticed us came over took our order then came back five minutes later to ask what we ordered as he did not write it down and had forgotten it! Our drinks arrived shortly after and our food... More

We came here to eat after a wonderful 3 hour visit with family to Schloss Schwetzingen. We were 2 grandparents, 2 parents, and 5 (precious) grandchildren - 9 hungry travelers. It was a bit breezy outside, so we went inside to be seated - we were in-between the lunch and dinner times with only a few other couples. In short... More

We stumbled on this place more or less by chance after visiting the gardens of Schloss Schwetzingen. The locals told me that this restaurant happens to be one of the well-known breweries in this area including the famous city of Heidelberg, so the expectations were set high. While the service on the pavement was effective, the food was less than... More
