Description: Authentic atmosphere-feel, sit with the locals and enjoy really good German food -"get to the point" waitresses. Trout was excellent, juicy pork meat with sides of sauerkraut & boiled potatos, the apple dessert (local speciality) was fantastic - crispy baked slices - YUM. Very affordable for the 4 of us, 3 course dinner with a round of smoked beer & local white wine with main course @ Euro 22/pp.

we reached bamberg quite late at noon, after a morning trip to another city, so by the time we entered the restaurant we were starving. it was wise of us to trust the positive reviews we read in trip advisor, head directly to this restaurant and order the dish called 'lumberjack' without even asking what it actually contains. kachelofen serves... Kachelofen is extremely popular and we can see why! We were lucky to get a table early one evening and we were not disappointed. We ordered Haxe and Rumpsteak and chicken snacks for the kids. All portions were very generous and the Haxe melted in the mouth. The Rumpsteak was huge, cooked perfectly and tasted divine and the bratkartoffeln served... More

I always get the Farmer's plate and share it. So delicious! Thick bacon, crispy onion, horseradish, just amazing. Don't forget to try the Keller bier.

It's really SO nice, cute, friendly restaurant, that you don't want to leave it. Portions are huge, recommend smocked beer and apple strudel. Prices not so high for such good food and service.

We had been in Bamberg for approximately 5 hours after a rough drive and were looking for somewhere easy and close to the hotel for dinner. We stumbled across Kachelofen and the place was busy on a Sunday - we were invited to sit at the bar until a table became available. We didn't have to wait long for a... More

It's my favourite restaurant because I always get fantastic food and service whether I am on my own, with my partner or with a group. Good choice of quality beer (and wine according to the girlfriend). Rustic interior surroundings with outside seating. Reservations possible.

The restaurant was recommended to my brother by friends. It offers traditional Bavarian and Franconian cuisine. We had Krustenbraten mit Kloß und Sauerkraut and Fränkisches Schäuferla mit Kloß und Wirsing. The Krustenbraten and the Schäuferla were delicious and very soft, the garnish of 2 kinds of cabbage, especially the Wirsing (savoy cabbage) was so tasty. Compliments to the Chef! The... More

When we ate here, we were seated at a large table for 6 - 8 people (6 at this time), in a very cosy small room. We ate with 2 other couples, both German, and had a delightful meal. As well as the food and smoke beer being very good, the company of one of the couples was great. Also,... More

In the heart of Bamberg near the Cathedral and catty-corner to Schlenkerla is Kachelofen. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. We were there in September and the weather was warm, so both times we ate outside. The place is always crowded but both times they managed to find seats for the three of us. The offer local beer and... More
