Great value and friendly service

Tiny restaurant in one of the attractive backstreets of Cassis. Found it by accident because it had a table available and we were weary. We enjoyed it so much we went back again. Good food at reasonable price, very cheap house wine and great informal but courteous service.

We are out a umber of times in Cassis, including at higher-end places, but this was our favorite! Fabulous pizza and fresh (caught that day) fish roasted in the wood-fired oven that is open to the intimate dining room. This is a friendly and social place, with guests chatting with each other and the chef, people passing food down the... More

Most restaurants late on this cool February Monday were ferme but we luckily stumbled upon Fringale. It has 8 tightly-squeezed tables for 2 and Marcel presides from his tiny counter in front of his fiery pizza oven. The other 4 diners were from Nice and knew Marcel but included us immediately in the spirited conversation, even allowing for our feeble... More

Nice "feu de bois" but very bad pizzas. Soft and without any taste. Small stones in the salad because it wasn't washed proporly. And no payment with créditcard. Don't go there.

From the moment we entered the pizzeria Marcel (the chef) made us smile with his jokes. Other local guests and the waitress were also super nice. We had a feeling of being invited to Marcel's living room, with a large pizza oven on the back wall. And the pizzas - one word - amazing! Crusty base and lots of cheese.... More

You almost have to climb over the other guest to get to your table, but the owner is a character with a ridiculous, non-functional cash register and a 40-year-old(?) picture of himself on the wall. The wood-fire pizza and lasagna are delicious, and the large chunks of beef he roasts in the same oven look and smell outrageously good!

Marcel ... oh Marcel ... so funny and friendly! Never had so much seafood in one pizza. Never had a homemade pizza so quickly in our plate. 12 EUR for a pizza in Cassis is totally a deal. Place is a bit small so you might want to book. Sophie&Andy

It would be an entirely different experience in warmer months when customers could eat out in the narrow streets, but in early January we managed to find seats in a snug room crammed with a three or four small groups, an oven, the pizza maker and one or two helpers. Did I say "groups"? Lively food and lively conversation made... More

Gotta love the huge photo of the owner from 30 years earlier that hangs proudly on the wall. The pizza oven is the centerpiece of this little hole in the wall that turn out phenomenal pizza. Have the fringale special.

Genuine warmth and great pizza from a wood fired oven. Lots of local people came and picked up pizza to go while we ate and lots of locals came and sat and ate in the later evening. This is not a tourist trap. We ate pizza and salad. Both were excellent. We ate out 22 nights on our trip and... More
