The restaurant is located right on the waterfront with a gorgeous view. Since we were on a group tour to visit Marseille and Cassis, we only had a very short hour. The waiters were nice enough to accomodate us and even speeded up the service (thanks to our guide). The appetizer was shrimp in a small glass with pesto mousee.... More

We have been coming to Cassis every year since 1990 and we have eaten at Chez Gilbert on every visit. We are stuck in the rut when it comes to the menu: Daurade Grille and/or Bouillabaisse. No one does either of them better in our opinion and we have tried every restaurant over the years (there is very little turn-over... More

We came here specifically to try the bouillabaisse. The proprietor explained the difference between traditional bouillabaisse and several of its evolutionary forms. I was particularly interested in the preparation of this dish since my French forefathers had settled in the Louisiana area of the USA and created Gumbo as an American version of bouillabaisse. My partner and I had a... More

While I could say that you are paying for the gorgeous setting by eating here, the truth is that there are more reasonable and equally tasty restaurants a few doors in either direction. I was excited to try a traditional bouillabaise and willing to pay a high price. At 50 euro for one portion at Chez Gilbert, that is pretty... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel, and as it had such good comments in TA we decided to eat there. We were very disappointed. We had the set menu and the fish soup was very average, and the main dish of red mullet and mash potatoes I would say was poor. The service wasn't great either. I... More

Of course we wanted to try it, having read about it in the New York Times two weeks earlier! So we made reservations earlier in the day, specifically requesting the bouillabaise, and arrived around 7:30 p.m. It was a perfect evening to eat al fresco. We started with an amuse-bouche of shrimp and a saffron-tasting sauce. Then the croutons with... More

From the ourside, Chez Gilbert stands apart from all of the other restaurants in Cassis port. The naipery and glassware set it apart from the standard seaside restaurants in all of the other establishments. We went here because we had received a recommendation for the Bouillabaisse. Passing on Friday night, we booked a table for the Saturday, and even chose... More

We went with a party of 4 to dine to Le Chaudron and had a wonderful and recommendable experience. Charming service, excellent food and wine at reasonable price levels (for southern France), especially when choosing a menu option (35 to 45 EUR for a 3 course dinner). Since it was still a bit cold outside we had been seated inside... More

Very nice location on the waterfront. Food was average. Appetizers were ok, had sea bass for main course which was ok however vegetables were over cooked and lacked flavour. Ice cream and fruit desserts were tasty. Staff was not overly helpful with matching courses effectively. View was great. Cheryl

I'm coming back to this place over again in the last 5 years, and was just there last week again. The food is brilliant, but pricy, the service is excellent. I had over the time, fish in many ways, meat, soup, bouillabaisse and deserts, everything was excellent!
