A haven in Chatellerault

This is a delight place, in an excellent setting, a haven in the middle of Chatellerault, a busy town some 30 kilometres north of Poitiers. The beautiful house has several rooms and a very pretty garden for outdoor dining. The welcome and service is of the very best, the food is of good quality... read more

It was our first time in Châtellerault and we chose La Gourmandine purely by chance. We were not disappointed in our choice. The exterior of the hotel/restaurant is quite impressive, as are the public rooms, with lots of beautiful plaster mouldings on the walls and ceilings. However, I disliked the style of the interior decorations and would have preferred it... More

Over the years, we have tried several places to break our journey from Calais to Arcachon, and the name of this hotel attracted us last year. Unfortunately, although the hotel is open on Sundays, the restaurant isn't (and the only options in the town centre on a Sunday night are a couple of Creperies and a Pizzeria) so we tried... More

Excellent place for a stopover en route for the Dordogne. Beautiful house and gardens with internal decoration a clever fusion of the classic and modern. A hotel of great elegance! The dinner was superb, with several freebies between courses, and very reasonably priced. No hesitation in recommending.

The ingredients were redundant, the seasoning was not perfect, i had fish, it was well cooked, but the sauce was not very tasty, a disappointment, and without forgetting that its overpriced

There's a lot I love and hate about French cuisine and it's all here. Fabulous quality local ingredients cooked beautifully. Wild boar, local goats cheeses, fantastic wines and then on the down side, those tiny pre-starters and in-between course nibbles that are unnecessary, slimy and foaming. The whole La Gourmandine experience is fantastic but I can't give it five stars... More

Trying to find a good restaurant on a Monday can be difficult, but advised La Gourmandine did a good basic menu on a Monday, we found far more than expected. The food was superb, reasonably priced and service attentive but not excessive.

I don't understand some of the critiques (the negative ones that is)that other people have written at all. The interior is gorgeous 'deco nulle' 'pseudo marocaine' must need their eyes testing! We have been going to this restaurant since it opened and I would say it has improved. Yes we can't go that often as it is fairly expensive but... More

We were wandering around Chatellerault wondering why a French town didn't sem to have any restaurants when we stumbled across La Gourmandine hotel / restaurant and gratefully dived in. It was more expensive than we had been looking for at a minimum menu of 39 Euros , but the food was fantastic. We ate outside in a garden surrounded by... More
