Recommended by Majestic we thought we'd give it a try. We were made to feel uncomfortable immediately by the stand-offish waiter "have you booked?" question when there were clearly plenty of vacant tables. Our next disappointment was having studied the menu for some time were were told that the "menu plaisir" wasn't available as it was a holiday. Fair enough,... More

I've eaten here a few times before but this was the first time with the whole family and it was brilliant. We didn't book a table and were seated straight away which was really pleasant as we had just completed our drive from Disneyland and had enough time to kill before coming back to the UK. The Menu was full... More

We have been coming for years but this year has been exceptional. We went for Sunday lunch, booking is essential as the burgers of Calais have found how good value it gives, and had a great meal with dishes cooked to perfection and with desserts "to die for", beautifully presented and tasting wodnerful. No wonder they take the order for... More

Visited again, and was not disappointed. Still excellent value. Food nicely served and portions ample. Combinations of ingredients imaginative. Waitresses pleasant, the only male waiter, rather less so. The dessert in particular was really good. Only complaint, the bread was dry and a rather small portion. J Fisher

As usual for France we expected most restaurants to be closed on a Sunday evening, so we anticipated a lengthy search. Having worked through the top seven restaurants on TripAdvisor and found them all closed, we were pleased to find that Le Grand Bleu (#8 on TripAdvisor) was open for dinner on a Sunday evening (from 1 June). We sat... More

We both had the crab starter which was lovely, then I had the cod which was fabulous. To finish I had the rum baba which was freshly baked, so dessert is an important part of dining at Le a Grand Bleu. It was very busy and to start with service was slow, we were very thirsty by the time our... More

The first time we ate here was in October 2013 - we went there on the night my wife told me we were going to have a baby! The food was fantastic as was the wine. We returned yesterday, stopping for lunch before driving home - this time we were with our 9 week old daughter! The food if anything... More

Very friendly stuff, explaining the menu in English (as there's no English menu, clear sign this is not a place for tourists), the chef even used dishes ordered by others to show us what he meant (given his English and our French). Overall, nicely surprised by the food quality, harbour view and friendly staff.

Just what an ailing Calais needs - a Restaurant with attitude. I have used Le Grand Bleu several times (as reviews passim will attest) and have never spent less than 100 Euro's at dinner. I always visit on my own as a precursor to a business trip. My experiences have been somewhat polarised - usually an excellent cuisine but far... More

After desastrous attempts in town and outside, at last a nice surprise in Calais ! Smart restaurant facing the port entrance, charming and friendly welcome (even when you arrive early on a Monday lunchtime) ! Very interesting selection of food, of course a choice of local fishes but not only ! Plenty of little attentions before the starter arrives. Excellent... More
