Don't be scammed

I'm ashamed to write this since I've been to France at least half a dozen times but I've never been clear about tipping guidelines. My wife and I ate at La Mere Poulard recently and had a decent enough meal. It's one of those places living on past glories with photos of big shots from 50 - 60 years... read more

Lured in by the number of famous people who came here to try the wood fire omelette. First, don't be daunted by the size of the omelette in the picture because it is mostly fluff, soufflé style. Second surprise was that the ingredients listed on menu are not actually IN the omelette but alongside. The omelette itself is plain. Yes... More

We had dinner there and the food was really good (not just the omelette). Generous portion too and the pink cider was pretty yummy. Really good service. We were so full after dinner we had to go up and down the Mont twice to walk it off a bit.

Because is a famous place and the traditional way to prepare the omelets is conserved, people use to visit this restaurant. The taste of the omelets is good, but honestly, nothing out of this world. The food is overpriced, menus are better option than a simple omelet, and the options are limited to 4 different omelets. The atmosphere is not... More

We dined here, while staying at the hotel. It is a fine dining experience and well worth a visit. The wine list is good and the staff are attentive.

When you live off a legend "l'omelette de la mère Poulard" - this is what happens : lousy service and overworked employees, overpriced food, little choice in plates. The "original", simple omelette ? They don't make it anymore !

Waited sat down for 20 minutes with waiter catching our eye saying just a minute. Half empty restaurant and no one came to take order. Walked out.

I was there in April 2015 with my girlfriend. After having seen the famous restaurant featured on a travel show on tv, we decided to try the illustrious omelette, despite the forbidding price. We arrived at Mt St Michel mid afternoon, only a couple of hours after having lunch so we were not that hungry and opted to order 1... More

We stayed at the hotel attached to the restaurant for 2 nights so eating here was part of the whole experience. Yes, it is pricey but it's also a part of history so having one of these amazing omelettes was worth it for us. The service was excellent and the interior is very nice. This was an overall great dining... More

La Mére Poulard is an institution, located in a very tourist-rich environment. Of course, this means it will be expensive. Some of the other reviews seem to ignore this fact. Also, as an institution in a tourist-rich environment with people from all over the world, the reviews will vary widely. All I can say is that I enjoyed my meal, though... More
