Authentic and the staff was lovely

We wanted some authentic french cuisine and we got it. Frog legs, excargot, oxtail foie gras and it was all delicious! Our waiter really made our night as he took the time to describe each dish in english which we did not expect and could have got by with the couple frechmen in our group but it... read more

This is French cuisine like it has to be. The steak tartare is freshly made before your eyes and it is good! Do not go to modern places or trendy places: you have to go to this honest and beautiful place: a classic brasserie-interior with mirrors, chandeliers, friendly staff in black and white, ... Un grand merci.

stayed at a nearby hotel and wandered down to the main square to look for somewhere to eat, very nice welcome from waiter and a choice of table, inside or out, December so thought inside a better choice though there were a few eating on the terrace, under the heaters. Food delicious, wine choices good, and not too expensive, service... More

We ate at the Escargot last friday evening. We hadn't reserved, we were tired, hungry and in a hurry. We were friendly welcomed by a waiter. It is the style "brasserie" : a choice of fishes and sea fruits and some classical meat dishes. The dinner starters were excellent My wife was delighted with her "plateau de fruits de mer"... More

A 5 minute walk from our hotel, this place majors in fish (selling it from a stall outside) although we did see other diners having steaks, etc. I had Moules Marinieres a la crème and frites. OH had Sole Meuniere. Both large portions beautifully cooked and presented. Neither of us could finish.the given portions. the highlight of a dismal visit... More

We sat in the more open area to the front of the restaurant, which was fairly busy for a Sunday evening. The service was attentive and welcoming (there is an English translation menu which may be useful). The food and wine were delicious. The escargots with toast 'soldiers' were just right, and the cheese tart was superb. I had grilled... More

Eat here with colleagues. Menu was OK, the Lescargot were good, but my main was awful, poor choice on my part. Service was very helpful, staff tolerated my schoolboy French and tried not to giggle too much at my Closseau like pronunciation. House wine very quaffable.

Went to this restaurant last Saturday at 3pm after being turned away by at least three or four other restaurants, Valenciennes is a pleasant small French town which obviously has had to start its life all over again following the savages of World War 2 The main period for lunch was over and the majority of the customers still in...
