Interesting and varied menu

With suckling pig or lobster, rognons de veau and Flamiche au maroilles there is lots to choose from, and three good set menus.

The Auberge de Bon Fermier Restaurant This is a dinning experience in originality and quality that I've rarely come across. We were staying in the hotel for two nights and it's my own rule never to eat in the same place twice, however our experience on the first night was so good that I broke my own rule. The chef... This place is amazing. As Americans, we don't get to see many places with so much history and this place definitely has history. You actually sit in what used to be a barn in the 16th century and has been kept very authentic. The big open hearth was brilliant. This place isn't all looks though. The food was amazing. The... The restaurant looks very nice with open fire place and candles. The choise of food is mainly heavy meat. We tried to get something lighter and had scrimp salade to start, daily fish and another starter salmon pie for main dish. For desert mousse de chocolat. Everything was quite ok, but nothing special compared to the high price. The wine... More

Speciallity of the house and it's amazing! The creamy sauce for the jacket potato was smooth and not sickly. and the profiteroles were very nice.

We drove to Valencienne on a roadtrip and decided to stop at the Auberge for dinner since it had been recommended. The restaurant is really beautiful, in an old cloistered kind of way. Since you sit down you are surrounded by candles, large old wooden planks and a roaring fireplace. You feel you stumbled onto something special. The menu is... More

The brasserie of this restaurant is recommended by many famous Guides, which usually means it will be a safe bet. I can only conclude that their representatives have not actually eaten there. Our starters were quite tasty but our main courses were disgusting. I had "fricassee", large chunks of tough meat in an indescribably nasty sauce. My husband had a... More

Found this place via the Internet and must say the pictures looked good and in reality it is all so lovely and atmospheric. I don't know about the Hotel rooms as we only used the Restaurant, and how !!, oh why did we use the Restaurant !!. The menu was in French, of course, and as our French skills are... More

On a previous visit to Valenciennes we thought this restaurant looked most attractive so this July, we booked dinner online and dressed smartly. The interior is full of character and has a feature fireplace where the house speciality, roasted suckling pig is prepared. So it was a major disappointment when we were shown to the worst table in the room,... More

I stayed here on a business trip, the hotel is an old building decorated in a medieval style. The rooms are ok but are a bit old fashioned for my taste, the staircases inside are very narrow and may not suit a larger framed person! The restaurant is good but a little pricy perhaps. Not much choice for vegetarians. The... More
