Over from the UK with friends for lunch, we discovered this restaurant near the Nausicaa aquarium. And what a discovery! We had the 35 Euro set menu and it didn't disappoint. From the delightful amuse-bouches to dessert, everything was beautifully cooked and presented imaginatively. Service was attentive and friendly and there was a great atmosphere in the busy room. Two... More

It takes something to ruin fresh fish but la Matelote managed it with clumsy, uncaring execution. I had two courses where the ingredients were thrown together on the plate and drowned in very ordinary sauces. Not special and very expensive.

After a long walk around the old part of Boulogne we came back to what I thought was just a bistro restaurant, Oh no we had a surprise when we ate Tonys food a good one at that. After being nicely greeted and seated in the window to watch the sun set while we ate my husband and I choice... More

Having visited this restaurant a few years ago I was looking forward to our visit for lunch during our day trip to France. The food did not live up to expectations. The fish soup had a triangular piece of white bread with melted cheese on the top and looked very unappetising, the sole and the St Pierre were both overcooked... More

This is the second Michelin one star restaurant to disappoint within the past couple of months and suggests the renowned culinary institution needs either to revisit its judging criteria or visit what it rates more often or anonymously. Bottom line: the cuisine and service is competent and uses fresh products however lacks the creativity and technical finesse expected of starred... More

OK, it was a Sunday night and the chef was off duty. However, for this to have a Michelin star is frankly hard to understand. I won't go into all the details, but it was bad enough for me to write to the chef. He replied that he rejected everything I said and that if I was going to be... More

We took the Menu Saveurs de la Mer, and were bombarded by little dishes, every one of them extraordinary taste experiences. I love how he uses local products and what he does with them. Nice mix between very modern and classic, but every dish was top. Very good value for money. Friendly service but also some annoying mistakes. The wine... More

This restaurant has a Michelin star!!! You would never know it. We tried out the menu at 39 euros (a real bargain compared with the other menus and the à la carte prices) and were totally underwhelmed. The order was confused and two main dishes of colin arrived. They disappeared when we explained that my partner had ordered something else... More

It is easy to see why this restaurant has a Michelin star. The setting is great and the food first class. The service was good and the wines flowed . I would have no hesitation in coming again although its rather a long way to go for lunch from the UK !.

We were a bit concerned having read some recent reviews, but either those were badly prejudiced or hypercritical, or Tony Lestienne has pulled his socks up. This is the fourth Michelin * restaurant we have dined at this year and it was easily the most enjoyable. But we ate a la carte and had fish starters and mains. We didn't... More
