We have to send our deepest felt thanks to M. le chef J- M Lorain and staff as well as to our French friends Eeva and Guy (who invited and paid). You all made the Saturday lunch last week a most wonderful experience. For hours we enjoyed in perfect harmony balanced well composed modern dishes rooted in local tradition accompanied... More

My wife and I first dined here about 8 years ago, for one of the best meals of my life. We were back again with friends, once more picking up a rental canal barge at the base just across the river. The meal was essentially perfect. From aperitifs in the lounge to the elegant dining room, the surroundings are inviting... More

If you blink while arriving at Joigny you will miss the town, but that's ok because it will avoid you the disappointment of staying and eating at the "Cote St Jacques". I had read many of trip advisor's reviews and hesitated going, but decided to take a chance... What a mistake! The rooms are 70/80s style and have obviously not... More

I read with attention your comment further to your stay and I wish to bring you some additional explanations. I am completely sorry that we did not know how to satisfy you and I think that your main complaint concerns the air conditioning which was effectively out of order during your stay. We indeed had a big electric problem due... More

Maybe one star, and the prices were correct, BUT, the food and the service was provincial snobby. If you want real 3 star cuisine try Anne-Sophie Pic or Marc Veyrat. Honestly this fellow is an impostor. I am really concerned that Michelin has lost its direction when giving out its precious stars.

Good morning, First of all, thank you for taking the time to post your review about your stay. We were disappointed to read that your visit to the hotel on this occasion did not meet with your expectations, despite the care, attention and passion our staff puts into their work. For several years now, JML’s talent has been recognised by... More

Joigny is a quiet town close to Auxerre and therefore Chablis and the three star rated La Cote Saint Jacques is the compelling reason for most travellers to visit. This is a wonderful restaurant with the chef at its centre; the intelligent use of technique and ingredients by chef Jean Michel Lorrain is an example to all cooks with the... More

This was part of a gastronomic trip through Spain and France, and it was certainly one of the highlights - possibly the best. Every dish was superbly cooked and tasted wonderful. The range of tastes was excellent, from the red mullet and mackerel with rhubarb and strawberries, to the snails with garlic and mushrooms and lentils, to the stunning Wagyu... More

It was clearly well thought out but would suggest just choose from individual dishes on the menu. It is old fashioned French cooking with a modern twist - but just too much.

Just what you'd expect from a Michelin 3 Star Chef. Went for lunch which lasted 41/2 hours. I have dined in four other three star restaurants, and this would rank with the finest. Jean Michel Lorain provides an experience of a lifetime. I have read some of the other reviews regarding the hotel, but you have to remember why you... More

A group of six of us visited this superb restaurant - we opted for the Gourmand (i.e. glutton !) menu with the Sommelier's wine suggestions. All superb, from the amuse bouche with Champagne at the beginning, through multiple entrees, main courses and desserts. Every one was a work of art in terms of taste and presentation, complemented by superb service.... More

Amazing food, presentation and service. Our second time here underscored the meaning of Michelin 3 star status. A great way to begin week on the canals of Burgandy. Beth Houghton's review says it all!
