The restaurant Trotthus in Riquewihr can accommodate 40 guests and immediately wins by its warmth and its Alsatian atmosphere. The thick and old west wall is simply the wall of the rampart built during the year 1291! The setting is ancient: large exposed beams, some of which date back to the early sixteenth century, a collection of antiques collected by the owner of the house and linked to winemaking, an imposing and ancient wine press on which you can dine or drink a glass. The Chef, Philippe Aubron, having knocked nearly 20 years around the world - from Japan to Australia and to the Caribbean - decided to drop his pots in Riquewihr. His Gourmet cuisine, inventive and refined, makes extensive use of the produce of Alsace and will satisfy the most demanding palates.

Visited with my husband, daughter and future son-in-law for evening meal on 25th December. On 20th December my husband and I had the gourmand and traditional set lunches which were excellent. Chef Philippe was most welcoming and gave us advice on a beautiful local walk and hints for where we could find snow. We booked for our evening meal on... More

We visited in September, needing somewhere to eat at short notice on a Saturday we were attracted by the rather brief but interesting menu outside, and so called back at 6:30 as they were opening. The owner/chef/maître d was putting the external chairs out, welcomed us in and offered us a table at 7.00, he continued to be attentive with... More

Very good food and very attentive service. We chose the Alsacian and the Gourmande menus. A big variety of tastes within the menus. Good wine produced by the restaurant owners. Would come there again.

I came here not knowing it was no. 2 on TA so my experience wasn't coloured by any of the reviews. It was a very memorable meal because of these reasons: I chose the gourmand lunch menu (€23) and it came with 5 dishes. The ones that really blew me away were: +The smoked salmon +Monkfish sitting atop a bed... More

From the initial booking, we were welcomed to this charming restaurant by Chef Philippe who looked after us throughout our meal. We took the advice of previous contributors & took the menu + matching wines. All courses were innovative & different from typical European cuisine with a touch of Japanese influence. Highly recommended.

First of all, my first impression of the decor was that it was strange; later, when the chef explained that this is an ancient building, and that the far wall from the entrance is part of the ramparts, I changed my mind. It has true authenticity. The food we thought was very good, just not great, and we would have... More

We last visited on Christmas Day 2012 and were so impressed that we wanted to eat there again. We weren't disappointed, the food was wonderful yet again. Philippe is not only a fantastic chef, but he's so personable and comes out to speak to all his customers, I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

This restaurant was recommended by David Ling at Hugel's winery. I strolled in at lunchtime on Friday 12th September and was shown to a vacant table immediately. The proprietor explained that Traditional Alsace food was not the main house style, but they did have an Alsace Taster menu for 19.50 euros and with a pichet of Pinot Gris this rose... More

Managed to get a table without booking however I believe I was very lucky to do so. My wife and I chose the set menu with matching wines. We had an aperitif and coffees with the total bill for the two being just over £100. The food was truly delicious and plentiful but most importantly it tasted superb. The host... More
