Description: The restaurant Trotthus in Riquewihr can accommodate 40 guests and immediately wins by its warmth and its Alsatian atmosphere. The thick and old west wall is simply the wall of the rampart built during the year 1291! The setting is ancient: large exposed beams, some of which date back to the early sixteenth century, a collection of antiques collected by the owner of the house and linked to winemaking, an imposing and ancient wine press on which you can dine or drink a glass. The Chef, Philippe Aubron, having knocked nearly 20 years around the world - from Japan to Australia and to the Caribbean - decided to drop his pots in Riquewihr. His Gourmet cuisine, inventive and refined, makes extensive use of the produce of Alsace and will satisfy the most demanding palates.

We last visited on Christmas Day 2012 and were so impressed that we wanted to eat there again. We weren't disappointed, the food was wonderful yet again. Philippe is not only a fantastic chef, but he's so personable and comes out to speak to all his customers, I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

This restaurant was recommended by David Ling at Hugel's winery. I strolled in at lunchtime on Friday 12th September and was shown to a vacant table immediately. The proprietor explained that Traditional Alsace food was not the main house style, but they did have an Alsace Taster menu for 19.50 euros and with a pichet of Pinot Gris this rose... More

Managed to get a table without booking however I believe I was very lucky to do so. My wife and I chose the set menu with matching wines. We had an aperitif and coffees with the total bill for the two being just over £100. The food was truly delicious and plentiful but most importantly it tasted superb. The host... More

We came across this restaurant by accident -what a lucky find. The e28 menu was excellent value, tasty combination of local produce with an Asian twist . Food was well balanced, good wine. Friendly and prompt service, with a personal touch from the Maître D . Lovely atmosphere. Thoroughly recommended

We loved the fact that there were some healthy dishes on the menu. It is extremely difficult to find a restaurant where they have even 1 dish on the menu that doesn't contain either meat or cream in the Alsace region! Here they have healthy options and it is served beautifully. Service was good and we asked for a fruit... More

We walked in without a booking at 20.15 on a Monday evening slightly off_season. We were welcomed by both the waitress and the chef, who then took our order. Menu with three matched wines all excellent. Restaurant quiet but comfortable. Will be very pleased to eat there again.

On recommendation we dined at Au Trotthaus. Were we disappointed no, in fact we went back again 2 days later. Just loved the creativity of the food and the selections on the menu. Great idea also to have the opportunity to have a set menu, with choices, and accompanying wine. Really loved the atmosphere, the service was excellent and then... More

Great food, fun twist on cuisine in the area. The owner in general not friendly, almost like a typical rude french hospitality style. We first came in and he treated us unkindly on a few points. We decided to forget about the service aspect and drink a lot of wine and enjoy the food which was good. If you are... More

Place was recommended by local who said this is one of two best restaurants in Riquewihr. We were not disappointed. Cosy interior, friendly service and very good gourment-type food which is nicely presented. We opted for the set menu, a three course dinner with 3 glasses of wine - and this we felt was a good choice (arnd EUR 100... More

Sat outside in a very atmospheric courtyard/alley on the edge of what was once the Jewish quarter. The chef was an expert host and immediately we felt relaxed and in the mood for good food - which is exactly what we got. We went for a menu which included three wines. Mackerel tartare was perfect with the local white wines... More
