lunch on busy festival sunday

A decent enough meal near the centre of town. We had a good mixed angioplasty, then 3 decent enough pasta dishes and a reasonable pizza which took ages to come. We've had better meals during our stay in the region. It was fairly priced, but I am sure you can find better for the most money elsewhere... read more

This is not an italian pizza (looks like they buy it at the supermarket) and all the traditional foods are simply terrible. We left as soon as we taste it.

The outside seating is tempting and the service is very good, but the food was poor, or perhaps we ordered the wrong items as on a couple of tables nearby, the food looked better. But how wrong can you go with Gnocchi and a pork steak? Not somewhere that we would return to ....

Nice and cosy restaurant nearby the 'Etruscan Porta'. I enjoyed the 'antipaste di mare'. A large variety of seafood that's more than enough for a little hunger. Good wines at reasonable price.

After viewing the old Etruscan gate, well worth seeing, we came upon Il Poggio. The restaurant invites you in with the claim of having open air seating upstairs. That's not quite true as one goes first in ,then up and then back down where you find more seating in the parallel cul de sac. Staff were friendly and spoke good... More

We chose this restaurant because it was one of the first coming from the Medici Fortress, we were starving and atmosphere looked good. There were also some signs of recommendation from Guide du routard and other guides, typically a good sign, but (later), we noted were not recent. Our iphone was not working so we had not the opportunity to... More

We had a wonderful meal at Il Poggio restaurant in Volterra, Italy! We ate up stairs near the window overlooking the very narrow leading up to the main square. It is actually just inside the main gate to the city. Porta all'Arco. We had roasted pork with a pine nut gravy. Our salad was Gorgonzola, walnuts and lettuce. The wine... More

the place offers great local pizzas and delicous pastas, worth the try if you are hungry, and the house wine is tasty

It is absolutely disgraceful on the Italian Authorities to allow such disgusting restaurants to operate, more so, when you are surrounded by a multitude of so many other good restaurants in the Tuscan region. What we ordered was simple pizza and basic pasta, suppossedly "THE PLACE" for a memorable experience for both these dishes - and it truly was but... More

D O N O T E A T H E R E (no, really, do not do it!) The place is a relatively small restaurant, split between two different floors. The heating system was terrible, and we actually doubted there was heating system on, at all, since we had to eat lunch with our jackets on. The food is pre-cooked... More
