No rosato

We ate here and we had a fantastic meal! The food was quite unusual but delicious. A twist to each local dish and beautifully presented. The only disappointment was the lack of rosé wine!!

Looking for a gluten-free place for my niece I stumbled into la Vecchia Lira, way past italian lunch time. The staff was super helpful and I managed to get real gluten free food to go for the girl, and amazingly good pappardelle also to go for me. I was really impressed and I would go back for dinner next time... More

Had an excellent dinner here after being prompted by others positive reviews. The staff were excellent especially the main waiter who we assumed was the owner. He made up for our pathetic Italian with a patient explanation of the menu. We ordered the leg of chicken which was beautiful (but gigantic) and the local steak which was succulent and cooked... walking around town my wife got inspired from this local cafeteria like restaurant where many local came to have lunch. As you pick your food cafeteria style I was reserved as for quality. It turned out to be the opposite. My kids enjoyed delicious lasagne as well as the local to scan variant of carbonara. I tasted perfect prepared bruschetta... More

When last we were in Volterra at La Vecchia Lira, I had a pasta dish with a mortadella sauce that was so unusual and delicious I had to have it again. Crushed when it was not on the dinner menu. Elated when they made it for me anyway! We had also promised ourselves to have one of the fabulous looking... More

We really enjoyed our dinner here - from the beautiful starter of locally-sourced prosciuttos and salamis, to the simple but delicious pesto pasta, to our finale of wild boar, done both traditionally and modern to its best. Come here and enjoy!!

The food is pre-cooked and when you choose it, they heat it in a microwave oven. This might be good if you are in a rush, but doesn't feel good while being in Italy. Otherwise the service and location are good, food selection is also ok.

We stopped here for lunch hearing it was cafeteria style and thinking it would be a nice quick meal. It wasn't too quick, which i don't mind, but all of the dishes were drowning in oil--it certainly didn't feel like a light or healthy meal, but all of the food was great.

Lots of locals stopping in for lunch here. We picked up our trays and were hard pressed to choose between lasagne, beef stew and what we were told was "turkey." Everything looked delicious and fresh. The lasagne was melt in your mouth cheesy. The "turkey" did not appear to be that, but probably pork, perfectly seasoned with garlic and herbs... More

It was nice to go for a lunch on the run and be able to see and choose the food from the counter. The staff was very friendly and the food very good.
