Pretty good quick lunch--oily!

We stopped here for lunch hearing it was cafeteria style and thinking it would be a nice quick meal. It wasn't too quick, which i don't mind, but all of the dishes were drowning in oil--it certainly didn't feel like a light or healthy meal, but all of the food was great.

The food is pre-cooked and when you choose it, they heat it in a microwave oven. This might be good if you are in a rush, but doesn't feel good while being in Italy. Otherwise the service and location are good, food selection is also ok.

Lots of locals stopping in for lunch here. We picked up our trays and were hard pressed to choose between lasagne, beef stew and what we were told was "turkey." Everything looked delicious and fresh. The lasagne was melt in your mouth cheesy. The "turkey" did not appear to be that, but probably pork, perfectly seasoned with garlic and herbs... More

It was nice to go for a lunch on the run and be able to see and choose the food from the counter. The staff was very friendly and the food very good.

I've been visiting this value-for-money restaurant since it opened more than 10 years ago and the ever-inventive menu never disappoints. You will find the regular Tuscan dishes here like wild boar, but always something unexpected too. The fish and seafood is fresh and imaginatively prepared and served. Thanks to Lamberto and Massimo and their hard-working cook, Patrizia, the experience is... More

La Vecchia Lira is friendly, food excellent local cuisine created from locally sourced produce (also good wine). One member of the group is vegetarian but the chef was always prepared to adapt dishes to suit each requirement. Excellent value. During our stay in Volterra we tried one other restaurant but soon realised that Vecchia Lira was our favourite and returned!

Dropped in for a quick lunch on a recommendation of a friend. They have a selection of sandwiches and a hot table and specials. We had the tripe (simply tender and delicious if you like tripe) and tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms (excellent fresh pasta). Shared a amall carafe of the house red all for under 20 euros. Definitely worth a... More
