Great place away from the crowds

Good restaurant serving good local cuisine with focus on vegetarian menu. We were a group of 10 with 6 kids. Everyone could find something to eat although the pizza menu wasn't available. Good home made past, good service and perfect break at the middle of a hot day in Umbria.

Taverna dello Spagna offers an appealing alternative to the strictly traditional menu of most Spoleto trattorias. This imaginative and somewhat quirky kitchen turns out consistently delicious food. Although vegetables and vegetarian offerings are particularly good here, there are also excellent chices for meat-lovers - I have particularly enjoyed the pork fillet with herbs. Wonderful owner and friendly, personable staff.

Wonderful atmosphere. Excellent music. The food is outstanding. We started with a bruschetta variety, several interesting toppings; My wife, the vegetarian, had the eggplant Parmesan. What was wonderful about this dish was that it was not overloaded with cheese and spices like so many are. It allowed the freshness of the eggplant to shine through, and they added sesame seeds... Taverna dello Spagna provides pizza, vegetarian or local food. We selected the third one (strangozzi con asparagi and tagliatelle al Sagrantino), Gulash as main course and budino with chocolate and orange as dessert. They serve wine also in cups (no need to take the entire bottle). Sagrantino wine was very good (2005, a little bit older than expected)

This is a visually amusing place with loads of paraphernalia to look at while you wait for the stream of meagre dishes to arrive. The most expensive place we ate at in Spoleto and the least satisfying, spiritually and physically.

We chose the Taverna dello Spagna on the advice of friends who accompanied us on the night for dinner. The Taverna looked cosy from the outside and the menu interesting and featured many vegetarian dishes and wholesome ingredients. We were cheerfully greeted by the waiter who took care of us for the rest of the evening. The taverna's decor is... More

Went here on the back of positive trip advisor reviews. We went for lunch to get pizza but were not told that the restaurant does not serve pizzas at lunchtime until we were ordering. We saw a group of ten leave when they could not get pizza so it seems a strange decision not to offer this particularly as the... More

We chose this taverna because it looked interesting and the menu included things we had not tried before. For instance, the pizza on the menu had a base made with spelt flour rather than white one, and the menu featured many vegetarian dishes and wholesome ingredients. We were among the first customers and were cheerfully greeted by the waiter who... More

Great restaurant with some innovative Vegetarian options. I like meat, my wife is a vegetarian so this suited perfectly. They had Tofu and quality vegetarian options so it was clear that someone had put thought and effort in to the menu. Extensive pizza menu including some really interesting Indian themed vegetarian option with ginger and chickpeas. Sounds nuts but apparently... More

This was a recommendation from another excellent restaurant which we frequented during our stay in Spoleto, to increase my options as a vegetarian. Taverna della Spagna offered a wide variety of dishes from which I could choose as well as a non vegetarian dishes. The owner, Giancarlo, was warm and friendly, the service excellent, the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming and... More
