Once your eyes get past the strange decor on the way in (it's kind of like entering into a cross between the planetarium, a hommage to Orvieto of yesteryear and a kids bedroom) the menu makes Osteria Numero Uno one of the most pleasant culinary experiences to be had. Once your eyes get past the strange decor on the way in (it's kind of like entering into a cross between the planetarium, a hommage to Orvieto of yesteryear and a kids bedroom) the menu makes Osteria Numero Uno one of the most pleasant culinary experiences to be had. The backroom's decor is much more subdued, thankfully. But the front... More

Authentic.... Authentic... Authentic. Only locals go here, so you know it is good! Enjoyed the polenta appetizer and the gnocchi. Great wines by the glass. Highly recommend this family owned restaurant!

This is a smallish place that is slightly removed from the main commercial/ shopping area. The selection of traditional dishes is excellent, and the ambiance cannot be beat. Ask to sit in the front room, as the ceiling is very whimsically decorated with a sky, airplanes, and birds!

It seems hard to believe that a restaurant where we go to once in a while - is always, always great. Service great - couldn't be more friendly and wanting to know if the food is good or what - plus there is always something new on the menu. We had eggplant stuffed and with a nut topping - light... We stopped in Orvieto on our way from Rome to Siena. One of the staff at the hotel in Rome recommended Numero Uno. The restaurant did not disappoint. Great pasta in pretty surroundings. The server, who might have been the owner, was eager to please. If in the area, this restaurant is definitely worth the stop.

If you are visiting Orvieto you have to have lunch or dinner at this Osteria. A reservation is highly recommended. I can not rave enough about this restaurant. The service was fantastic. And the prices normal.

It was average. I had pork chips which were like a weird small chunk that did not resemble chops at all. Disappointed After reading the reviews

Completely unexpected. We booked for this on the strength of a recommendation in the Guardian newspaper. It turned out to be the most charming kind of Italian family restaurant you could imagine. Clown serviettes, wild mobiles (the Alexander Calder type) hanging from the ceiling, tiny children racing around, the chef chatting to everyone. If all that sounds like a recipe... More

We were advised by a friend to visit this Osteria if we visited Orvieto, and so we did. The menu was on a blackboard on the wall, obviously not in Spanish but Angelo kindly printed a Google-translated version (which we still keep as a memento of that meal). Just a Din-A4 front page of typical Umbrian food, delicious and carefully... More

Fresh, delicious food served in a comfortable, inviting atmosphere. We especially enjoyed the antipasto and their fresh pastas. Menu is varied and prices are reasonable. Service is prompt and friendly without being overbearing. Would highly recommend and would definitely return if we're ever in the area again!
