Off the beaten path, but, worth visiting

The young chef is a wonderful host and the food is excellent. Slightly out of the way, a 10 min walk from the main street in Orvieto, this is well worth a visit. There were more locals than tourists. The waitress didn't speak English, so the Chef/Owner took our order and personally delivered our... read more

The trouble with Italian food is that it is…too Italian. Unknowing tourists come to Italy looking for the Italian food they recognize from home but "savvy" travelers look for authentic regional food. Both sets of tourists catch restaurants in similar traps. Restaurants offer "menu turistiche" which appeal to the first type of tourists while other restaurants advertise “tipica” foods. The... Valentina is a wonderful self-trained chef. She makes you feel very much at home. Every dish is presented with sophistication---nothing pretentious, just a light touch and deep good flavors. I would eat here once a week if I could.

An interesting restaurant off the main thoroughfare in Orvieto. Decor is cheerful and bright (maybe a bit too bright), with lime green walls and quotations from Wilde and Lennon, and a quirky collection of books/magazines on tables and walls. Service was friendly and attentive; the menu was available in English and our waitress gave us good advice about dishes and... More

Worth finding and trying! Very good fresh seasonal food. Traditional foods of the region with a twist. Valentina ( the owner) is very special and sweet! Her decor is fun and the food is fabulous. We had the asparagus risotto, fava bean and bacon bruschetta and a traditional braised beef dish with cocoa and Jerusalem artichoke that sounds weird but... More

We had a great meal here and found the quirkiness of it a delight. The waitress was attentive and helpful without giving us any sense of our needing to move on though they had more diners coming after us. The owner was charming and chatting with her significantly added to the evening. One of us best meals in Italy, including... More

Was impressed the first visit so returned two nights later. It is our understanding that it is run by six women and the two we met were very welcoming and professional . The orvieto Classico we had the first night was very acidic but the Ross red wine the second night was very good. The environment is modern and we... More

Excellent food in a bright, modern atmosphere. The proprietor is a young woman and her youth is reflected in the restaurant's ambiance. Another reviewer mentioned that she should soften the restaurant's lighting, and that's a good idea. She serves mostly organic, farm-to-table fare with enough creativity to keep it interesting without going overboard. Everything we ordered was well-prepared with care... More

I am not sure why there is a pile of books on each table, but the food was very good! This small restaurant was recommended to us and we are glad we found it! It opens at 7:30 pm at this time of the year. The pasta with truffles was very good!

We were looking forward to visiting this place when we read about its dedication to "slow food", local sourcing of its ingredients and its good reviews. But although the food was certainly good, it didn't blow us away at our lunch there. One secondi was a stuffed pigeon that had a lot more stuffing than pigeon, for example. I'm grading... More
