Umbrian Cuisine

A bit of a walk from the center of town but worth it. The menu is a great mix of local Orvieto specialities. The Umbrichelli and Tortellacci with black ink were both fantastic. It's the first place we've ever had truffle. The owner actually brought one out to us and told us about them. She was... read more

We contacted and booked this restaurant before leaving Melbourne as it is the only certified gluten free eatery in Orvieto. They were so helpful. The coeliac member of our party had a choice of pastas with a variety of sauces, gluten free breads and wonderful mixed bruschettas. The non coeliac members of the party enjoyed a range of tasty meals... More

First I have to thank the other reviewers who wrote about the gluten free food in that restaurant. Now when the enemy (gluten) is out of the way (marked menu - including today's specials) the fun can start. And fun it was. Tartofu crostini, ragu with pasta, quail, and rice tart for desert. All dishes were well executed, and were... More

With one of us being a coeliac, we were delighted to see a menu with all the gluten-free options clearly marked, and in fact most things on the menu were so marked. I actually had one of the non-gluten-free starters - pumpkin flower fritters stuffed with mozzarella and anchovies, which was delicious. My husband was given gluten-free bread and was... More

We ate here several times while spending a week in Orvieto, which I think says a lot. The atmosphere was very nice and I enjoyed seeing the historic pictures of Orvieto on the walls. I enjoyed the fried Zucchini flowers which were in season while I was there, and also had the Orvichelli (spelling?-local pasta of Orvieto...larger than spaghetti but... More

The owner speaks very good English and is a wonderful host. The menu is typical but everything is done with a light touch, and is delicious. They often have carciofi guidica (Jewish style artichokes)--when it's available it's a must have! A local favorite--and deservingly so.

Had diner tonight at Antica Cantina. Another great meal in Orvieto. Service was great. Best dishes were the pear carpaccio, pasta with Mushrooms and the ravoli. The chicken and quail were nice but I would try some of the other dishes if I went back. Be prepared to bring cash since they had a terrrible time with their credit card... More

This is one of the most charming restaurants we have eaten at in Italy. We arrived in Orvieto planning to eat at Trattoria Grotto, but it was closed on Tuesdays. The wonderful people at our hotel, Hotel Duomo, quickly searched to find someplace else to accommodate us and recommended Antica Cantina. We did not find it in our own gluten-free... More

The food and service at this small osteria were exceptional. We both enjoyed the pear capaccio and I had the umbricelli with sausage and truffles. This was one of my favorite meals on our entire trip. Outstanding!

Antica cantina is one of the few places in Orvieto with tables outside in a quite piazza, which is a big plus. Inside has plenty of light and tasteful decor; another rareity in Orvieto. The menu takes traditional receipes and works on them to create master chef level dishes. However, there are no chefs only cooks as Antica Cantina is... More
