great new years eve dinner

8 of us treated to fine and plentiful (but not ridiculously so) menu times just so as to finish before midnight and let us see the fireworks at the Duomo. Gossipy (longtime American resident) owner-chef entertains and all-inclusive price was outstanding.

Firstly, ignore the menu on the door. It's aguide but you will eat nothing from it. Small but tasteful, lovely welcome from Ciro who speaks fantastic English but happy to be patient if you want to practice your italian. The food was a list given by course and was wonderful. We were not rushed although it was very busy. Give... More

They will bring you the specialties of the day if you let them. And you should let them. Great food in a charming setting and you don't have to think too much. The pastas were excellent and the appetizers were great.

we returned to Trattoria dell Orso today and once again were treated to a wonderful dining experience. If you are in need of traditional tourist fare, by all means eat at an outdoor cafe near the duomo. But if you crave something unique and local, stop and dine with Ciro and Gabriele. You won't be disappointed.

We have been to Italy numerous times, including several times in the Umbria area. Some close friends of ours introduced us to Gabriele and Ciro and their restaurant. We now go there every time we are in Italy. For terrific, consistently delicious food the place can't be beat. Add in a delightful setting and incredibly friendly hosts and I can... More

Gabriele & Ciro always treat us like old friends. We dined there at least 6 times & have sent many friends. When near Orvieto, it is must. Phil & Suzanne from Georgia

We decided to try this place, based on a recommendation from Rick Steves' guidebook. Are we glad we did! Since it was truffle season, we asked what dishes we could try that would contain them. Well, they went above and beyond. They whipped up a vegetable soup, pasta dish, and guinea fowl course all made with truffles. One of the... More

I had heard about this restaurant and knew that there would be no menu and to go with the staff's suggestion - I was so delighted that I did! I had the soup and the guinea fowl and they were magical. The soup was from fresh seasonal vegetables - zucchini and I'm not sure what else but there was some... More

This restaurant is on Rick Steves' list of places to dine. We had a superb dinner here and the owner waited on us. The bruschetta pomodora was excellent; we had pasta with four types of mushrooms as the primi, followed by Guinea fowl and chicken cacciatore. Of course we had a bottle of Orvieto Classico wine. When we dined, there... More

Orvieto is my favorite town in Italy, and Trattoria dell'Orso is my favorite restaurant. Ciro is always friendly and the food is always amazing. As everyone else has said, there are no menus, you eat what they're cooking - which adds to the charm and the 'Italian-ness' of it. It can get to be a little pricey as the courses/and... More
