Family feel with good food

Grabbed lunch here on recommendation from my sister who had been previously. It was a rainy day in the off season so we were lucky that it wasn't very crowded. Carlo was an excellent host from start to finish. We had some lovely cheese and fig jam and also pork carpaccio to start. Had the... read more

Poor serviced street restaurant. Location is good but do not expect more. Chef was rude.

My husband and I (my husband Italian, me American) decided to take a spontaneous day trip up to Orvieto for the day. It being a holiday most of the restaurants were completely full and we started to get nervous we were gonna be out of luck for a good meal. Lucky we stumbled upon Da Carlo right before the kitchen... Our lunch today didn't come about by plan or calculation or by thumbing through a Rick Steves book; we were ducking in out of a sudden thunderstorm. Carlo and his mom welcomed us like family and helped us tuck away our bags and hang up our wet jackets. Soon we were enjoying plates of pasta comfort food and attentive service.... More

We went to this restaurant based upon the Rick Steve's recommendation and were not disappointed. It did take us a bit to find because it is in an alley, so do take care to look for it off the main street if you decide to go. When we arrived, quite late for lunch actually, we were greeted with a big... More

The food wasn't so bad just a little bit salty. The service of the girl who brought the dishes was very good. The owner's mother shouldn't do this kind of job. I think is to much for her and her age. They were moments, we had the impression, that the owner was laughing behind our back but maybe we were... More

A small family run restaurant with really excellent food and casual, friendly ambience. Their stated motto on the front of the menu translates roughly as: "simple cooking for easy going people." The ingredients were simple and fresh, but the preparation was refined. The pasta with pumpkin sauce was memorable; the roasted chicken and roasted lamb were both superb; for an... More

I have had lunch at Da Carlo three times over the past few years when traveling to Orvieto, and it is my favorite place. Carlo and his family are wonderful and the food is some of the best I have had in Italy. The pasta that I had on the most recent visit, Carlo's specialty with pork and fennel, was... More

The trattoria was so busy during our lunchtime visit that we had to sit at a table close to the kitchen, you would normally pay extra for this in some establishments but here you can watch the comings and goings of the staff and get a running commetary of how your meal is progressing from the proprietor and head chef... Lunch at Da Carlo is a true Italian experience. Carlo is out front with his mother taking care of his customers, and his small team is in the kitchen. But in reality, Carlo is out front taking care of his customers and his mother Teresa. She is a delight, but speaks little English. And Carlo has to sometimes come and... More
