Just that little bit pretentious

We chose this restaurant for its location right on the piazza and because of a recommendation in Fodors. The waiter's sense of humour could have been off putting but we just went with it and bantered with him. Sitting outdoors on a beautiful afternoon , overlooking the Duomo was magical. Food is fabulous. Server was the biggest jerk I've ever met. From the beginning, he made it very clear that we had better not expect him to do anything that he didn't want to do. We were treated with disrespect, arrogance, and I would go so far as to say contempt, on several different points. Because it was very late... More

Having eaten here in previous years I was keen to go back but found a disappointing menu and very expensive wine list. The waiter was disinterested and food was ok but not to the standard we had experienced elsewhere in Orvieto. The zabaglione was the highlight. I won't be going back sadly.

One of the best meals my family has eaten for a long time. Brilliant, almost unnoticeable service, lovely surroundings, very tasty and superbly presented food. Thoroughly recommended.

For once, we decided to be the perfect tourists by having lunch on a terrace facing the Duomo. We ordered pasta with a glass of Orvieto, both slightly overpriced, but hey, you have the privilege of sitting in front of the Duomo. Pasta were quite good, which wasn't the case of the wine. So be it! As I still felt... More

While driving north on the autostrada, we stopped at Orvieto to have lunch and stumbled upon il Giglio d'Oro. This was between the lunch and dinner service and the restaurant was empty. We weren't certain that we would be served but Emiliano was gracious and made us feel like family. The meal was extraordinary. This was quite a while ago... More

Beautiful location but needs renovation. The menu has lots of vegetarian options and food was delicious but highly overpriced.

Our family of four was driving from Bologna to Rome right before Christmas and we arrived in Orvieto at lunchtime. We wanted to show our teen daughters the Duomo with the famous frescos by Signorelli so Orvieto was the perfect place to stop, rest and eat. Missed the bus from the funicular to the Duomo so we walked uphill for... More

5 days into 11 day trip. This meal has been one of the best. Expensive but worth it. Every dish was spectacular. Highly recommend. The eggplant and truffle appetizer was perfect.

First, we were charged more for one of our main courses than the menu indicated but it was too late to go back. Food was good, service perfunctory. We were not impressed
