Good food, good people

This restaurant turns 50 next year and having eaten here, one can understand why they are thriving so well. First of all, food is excellent here - hand made pastas and local produce. Ristorante La Grotta is on the very short list of our favorite places to eat in Italy. Every trip includes a stop in the area so that we can dine here. My only disappointment was that we were not able to return for a second dinner before we left for our next stop. The dining rooms are elegantly and comfortably... More

Getting here may be a challenge - it is not within Montepulciano walls, but slightly outside next to San Biagio church. If you have a car, I'd advise driving instead of walking as it's really a distance from the city center. However, the food itself is really worth the hassle. It was so delicious, and dining in the lovely outside... More

Ask for a table on the terrace with a view of the church. It is pricey but well worth it. If you are tired of seeing the same menu in all the restaurants and are ready to have a very nice dinner, this is the place to go to. I would suggest the tasting menu. I am a vegetarian (my... More

We always enjoy good views and good food. This restaurant located next to Temple San Biagio was a great find to our Tuscany journey. We went there for lunch, sat in their garden, all staff were very friendly, two of us had artichoke and zucchini tart (recommended by staff as it is on season), pasta and lamb chops to share... We made reservations prior to leaving Canada as we had read the reviews for this restaurant. We were not disappointed. We had a fantastic meal. The restaurant also sells their olive oil at 10Euro /bottle which is a great price as it is great - we bought bottles home for gifts.

Based on the reviews on Trip Advisor, I made reservations ahead of time. We ate a bit on the early side (7:30pm) and were the first ones to arrive. We walked down from the top of the town with a wonderful Italian man, who didn't speak any English. We are still not sure what he said! This was an anniversary... More

While enjoying the wonders of Montepulciano we decided to take the recommendation of our innkeeper and walked a few blocks to la Grotta for dinner. Incredible atmosphere, delicious food, wonderful wine, and attentive service. We all thoroughly enjoyed the lovely evening and suggest visitors to Montepulciano visit this wonderful dining venue for a wonderful Italian meal.

I came back here today after many years and the quality is still the same highest among the best restaurant in Montepulciano. Maybe someone may concern that prices are not low or cheap but fair for the quality you get. I would not hesitate to suggest it but the high quality may means also smaller portion and delicate dishes.

When we are in Italy we always try to make a trip to La Grotta. We love to go to their Sunday lunch/brunch and sit in the garden on a nice day. With views of the garden and the San Biagio church, it is serene and peaceful. Whether we sit inside or outside, though, the food never disappoints. Worth the... More
