We were visiting the statue overlooking Maratea - fantastic views, well worth the chicanes! We met the daughter of the house there and she, naturally, recommended her family run business as a good place for lunch. We were a little late and it was quiet BUT well worth the short detour. We accepted the recommendations given and weren't disappointed. Great... More

This is a true country trattoria but only an 8 or 10 minute drive outside of Maratea and nestled in a tiny borgo of houses with no other businesses around. Once out of the car, you are greeted by the chickens clucking, a few dogs barking and finally Antonio who will treat you like an old friend. This "slowfood" style... More

How to make the middle of nowhere feel special... By serving fresh, home-cooked food in a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Owner Antonio welcomes you to his restaurant as if to his home, sharing stories of his time abroad and his love for his home in Basilicata. The food, from antipasti including home-made cheese and marmelade of myrtle and peppers as well... More

Our host was most helpful, charming and quie personable. The wine was very good and the food was as well. Our host and his sister (marketing and public relations respectively) returned to the table several times to ensure our food and wine was all in order. We started with menus and then somehow ended up with the un priced 'fresh... More

The owner of this restaurant couldn't have been more helpful : he drove down and collected us from the hotel, which was in the next village! Everything was grown locally, from the pigs, chickens, eggs and goats, to the cheeses, herbs, wines and liqueurs. The restaurant is like an extension of his house, and his family were there in the kitchen.... More

Worth every penny and the drive up there. Everything was home-made from the cheese, to the prociutto, to pasta itself. Parking was in the back and after being greeted by Nonno at the door, was served and explained the specialties of the day by Antonio. Great family business with everyone involved. Southern Italian nonna cooking at its best with great... More

As visitors to nearby Maratea, we decided at the last minute to search out Il Giardino di Epicurio, run by the Bocchiglione family,in the village of Massa, a scenic 5-minute drive up the hill from the central piazza in Maratea. There was not a taxi to be found, so we called the restaurant, and, given a somewhat slow evening, a... More

Highly recommended. Everything is homemade and I had the best pasta I've ever eaten. Very friendly and excellent recommendations from the staff. Lovely to eat in a mountain restaurant although we went at night so don't know if ther is a view!

Il Giardino di Epicuro is a wonderful place to eat if you want to try something local, fresh, and home-made! Antonio adds a bit of his own flavor to it by being nice and charming and funny. Definitely EXCELLENT food, and the BEST truffle gnocchi I've ever had! The BEST! However, be ready to pay UP!! They may also gently... More
