I stayed in Lecce for a week before meeting my wife in Sicily. Mamma Elvira was a home away from my B&B, which was right around the corner. My B&B uses the enoteca for its guests breakfasts. Which was truly an Italian breakfast and exactly what I wanted. Espresso or cappuccino with a local pastry. The special pastry only found... More

We had been eating out in posh restaurants for most of our trip, and decided to try some cocina povera for a change, so strolled across the square from our hotel to this delightful wine bar/restaurant. Outside tables completely mobbed, so we sat indoors. Tables are actually high, with matching wooden stools, a bit like a tap bar in Barcelona.... More

We were wandering around trying to find a lunch spot and found a this lovely cafe style restaurant close to our hotel. We sat outside and enjoyed watching the people as they walked by. As we purused the menu our "waiter" came by and asked us if we had any questions as the entire menu was, of course in Italian.... More

We had lunch here twice and enjoyed the varied food immensely. On one occasion we were a group of 7, miserable weather so we spent a few hours here. We had a large table and sampled almost everything on the menu. I can highly recommend the Parmigiana and the selection of 3 cheeses, however it was all delicous. The wine... More

When I moved to Lecce three and a half years ago, I naturally went in search of the essential services.( As a single female it's not that easy to find places in here where you can hang out alone, without feeling like a complete freak). This search included a cool bar in which, I could not only eat and drink... More

Great wine drinkers paradise, the food looked good too, mostly small bites but tasty looking. Staff were very friendly and talkative. Place was very modern with traditional architecture. Next time in Lecce a visit is a must.

Contrary to what its name suggests, at Mamma Elvira you are not going to meet a matronly hostess dispensing home-made pasta. What you’ll see is a crowd of young and youthful people sitting on high chairs on the street in front of the joint and, some, in the backroom, where it is cozier if you want a full meal. Everyone... We are staying in Lecce for 2 months and quickly discovered that this sophisticated little wine bar has just about everything going for it. There is a great wine list featuring local wines, the ever changing small plate dishes are home cooked and fantastic for sharing, and the staff are really friendly. Andrea and his team do everything to make... More

I would not normally give a bar/cantina five stars but Mamma Elvira deserves the rating for all that it offers. Its location is optimal for being part of the local scene because although there are tourists, most of their clients at lunch, dinner and after dinner are locals. The regional cheese and meat plates highlight the wonderful products of Puglia,... More
