Excellent culinary experience, dampened by husband's 'chip on his shoulder'

Another Tuscan restaurant where wife and son are slaving away in the kitchen concocting culinary delights, while the husband presents himself in a rather unfriendly manner contributing very little to what would otherwise be an excellent culinary experience. He really needs to get over himself. I... read more

My wife and I had a great dinner one evening at Abergaccio di Castellina. The atmosphere was of the restaurant was unique in the inside, downstairs, and out side dinning areas. the food (antipasto, Primo and Secondo Piatto, and dessert courses) and of course the vino were to die for. We were given additional courses over and above what we... More

A well deserved Michelin star for this unique restaurant tucked away in the hills of Chianti. From the impeccable service, to the treats and table visit from the charming female chef, Albergaccio was a superb experience, the highlight of our 10 day foodie fest in Italy. The chef is not afraid of intense Tuscan flavors and hers is a bold... More

We could not have been more pleased with the total eating experience at Albergaccio di Castellina. Despite arriving late for the restaurant's normal serving time for lunch (our GPS was less than helpful) we were treated to an outstanding meal and exceptionally professional and friendly service. My wife and I each ordered a tasting menu--she had the Vegetarian option, while... More

We just lunched here and enjoyed 2 different tasting menus to include traditional but elaborate dishes, with a surprise factor. Delicious and beautifully presented. Classic interior, by no means cheap. Relaxing music and warming fireplace.

More expensive than many of the surrounding restaurants. The food was good but not exceptional, maybe that the restaurant was quite empty.

Menu is good, food is delicious. Wine list also respectable. However, decor and ambience looks cheap. Service is friendly but except the maitre d is unprofessional and not well trained.

The restaurant has its own car park as its about 1km from the town. It is very pleasantly set out and the staff are welcoming and friendly. It is everything that you would expect from a high class eatery and the prices in the menu reflect that so be aware before you stumble across this. For us this was a... More

Our GPS had us take SR222 from Siena to the restaurant which is a windy road with great views (for those who have visited California it is almost as twisty as HWY1 in Marin County north of San Francisco.) I got a bit car sick on the way up by letting my wife drive, so I was a bit concerned... More

...by the bad reviews. We knew when we made lunch reservations about the Michelin star. We had lunch at another nearby Michelin starred restaurant the previous day, so we were prepared for a let-down, or at least to walk away jaded by our earlier experience. We were realistic - the level of service and quality of presentation, ambiance etc translates... More
