Special restaurant for a special meal

We dined at Albergaccio on our last night in the area. The ambiance was special and the "sous plats" on the table were beautiful - so much so that we looked up the manufacturer and made a trip to by some plates. Although a touch more expensive that other restaurants in Castellina, the house offered... read more

Our favourite dinner in Tuscany for many reasons. Owners warmly agreed to create a special evening meal fitted to our liking around the pasta dishes they had to offer. My ravioli filled with cod was so delicate and flavourful I had to meet and thank the chef. Truly. Every bite was that amazing. We ordered salad to start, pasta to... More

My wife and I have been coming to this restaruant for over a decade now, we enjoy our wedding anniversary here every year when we visit Tuscany. Both Sonia the chef and Francesco who runs front of house greet you with the biggest smiles. The food is excellent the dishes are prepared with such a delicate touch, the flavours are... More

This has long been a favourite restaurant and famous with traveller to Chiantishire. Until recently it had a Michelin star but has lost it, and at our latest visit, we see why, alas! The meal was really rather poor and only redeemed by pleasant chats with the courteous and friendly head waiter. An indifferent dish of carpaccio of baccala (salt... More

I am not sure why this is such a highly rated restaurant. It was good, but nothing special. We were told by our concierge that this was a Michelin started restaurant. I think not. The food nor the service were up to par. The service especially was lacking. Professional and prompt but not friendly or welcoming. Great wine list, but... More

We were just driving to Greve in Chianti and stopped here for lunch on our way. The soup of the day was onion and every one enjoyed it. I had a very good house salad with a mix of three greens, carrots, cucumber and very delicious grape tomatoes. My pasta was delightful, homemade pasta in a light mushroom sauce with... More

The setting is nice, although not impressive. The dishes interesting but served in small portions. The service competent, but seemingly unused at hosting Italians or locals (despite we are Italians, the waiter kept addressing us in English). In all, we've got the feeling we could have eaten better (or at least bigger portions) and payed less in many of the... More

Castellina sits high atop one of the many high hills in Tuscany. We stopped at this restaurant for lunch and had a delicious meal. I had tasty home-made cannelloni with spinach and ricotta stuffing, baked in a savory Bolognese sauce. This was all washed down with a glass of mouth-watering Brunello di Montalcino wine.

We visited for a birthday as it was one of the few restaurants in the area that served excellent food and allowed dogs. Although it has recently lost its Michelin star, I believe that it will get it back by next year. The meal started well with some excellent freshly-made bread and parma ham, some of the best bread I've... More

Without a doubt the best meal we had in Italy. We ate out every night for almost three weeks and the meal at Albergaccio Di Castellini was our favourite. The server and his daughter were very friendly and attentive to our needs. He also gave us a lesson in what true Balsamic should taste like. It certainly deserves its great... More
