Ate here twice during a short time in Castellina! Great restaurant, excellent service, good staff but the food is the real star here, fantastic, would highly recommend. At busy times you may need to book.

We had a lovely dinner here in June, sitting outside and enjoying the local color. The place was packed, an obvious good sign, and although we waited a few minutes for a table, it was well worth it. We had light dishes, salads, pasta, etc, as well as the compulsory (after all, it's Italy) glass of wine. We had a... More

Recommended to us by Italians who eat there all the time, we turned up with out booking but they found us a table, but best to book as its pretty small. Staff, service and food all good and as everywhere in Chianti, an amazing wine list, in fact your surrounded by the stuff whilst you eat. Possibly the best meal... More

Enjoyed this family owned destination. The olive oil is great as is the spray on balsamic. Enjoyed our pasta fungi w shaved truffles very much and the home made lasagna. The tomato and fungi bruschetta were excellent as well.

Consistent quality is the sign of great restaurant and Il Re Gallo never disappoints. Over the years they have expanded to include us tourists as the locals pack the place everyday. Ask your hotel or B&B to make a reservation and you won't be disappointed. The food is homemade, reasonably priced, with a good list of Chianti wines. A real... More

Small, charming restaurant that does not feel touristy at all. The service we received was immpecable and the food very fresh, not to mention the extensive wine list with some of the best in the tuscan area! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is going to be in this area, wish we could have eaten here again!

Enjoyed a good lunch in a large group wine tasting in Chiani. Antipasta to start then rough cut pasta and pork with two salads finished with a glass of Vino Range. Well cooked and served in a busy restuarant

Il Re gallo is situated in the nice village of Castellina in Chianti. Menu is varied with a good wine list of wines from the region. Decor is typical Osteria, nothing fancy, lot of wood, cosy and appealing. For starters we opted for a plate of pasta. I had the pici cacio e pepe which were cooked to perfection and... More

After a really long day we came to the restaurant for dinner. The place is small, warm and a great refuge from a cold night. The staff are very friendly and the food was very delicious.
