Great value!

Returned to introduce friends to this jewel. Great atmosphere, excellent food with a real local twist - selection of pasta dishes particularly worth sampling. Do not be put off by the front door - go in and you will get a very friendly and warm welcome!

We stopped by this popular Osteria on our way from Rome up to Modena, for a very quick lunch with the kids. The place is nice (dark) and small, the chef very "characteristic" and welcoming. The starter was a normal "Tuscan style" starter and the only relevant thing was the pancetta, very good. We followed his advice for the main... More

A bit chaotic but food was amazing, and a beautiful setting. Beef with rosemary was one of my top 10 beef dishes of all time. Just don't ask for Pizza, as the table next to us did :-)

Especially for those who have already been in "God's Country" (at least one of them), superlatives are hard to come by. But in our humble option, "La Vecchia Rota" together with the host is one of them. The osteria is located in the small and beautiful borgo Marciano della Chiana, right in the center, spotting an unobtrusive entrance which then... More

Always good to go back to Marciano at la Vecchia Rota, Massimo the owner is always very welcoming and very happy to tell you what's on the menu! The piglet with garlic and wild fennel was totally delicious as well as the onion cooked under the ashes !to start we had Pezze della. Nonna homemade pasta with pecorino cheese and... More

This is a family run restaurant with a small menu and excellent service. Massimo the owner gives detailed explanations of what the dishes are and how they are cooked. The meat and pasta dishes are excellent, they are prepared according to traditional recipes to a high standard for what appears to be a simple local trattoria. The local red wine... More

We went with our Italian amici who raved about this place and is from a family full of great cooks and values traditional food. He said the pasta al forno "was better than my mother makes", and the family all loved it. Given it was the season an off the menu order of "e porcini grigliati" was readily accepted and... More

Previously I had heard it was a bit expensive for what was on offer, but under the new owners/ chef that is far from the case. It is very well located just off the Piazza Grande and has two reasonably sized rooms. The quality of the food and service were higher than anything else I experienced in more than a... More
