The Bay Horse retains an emphasis on the finer details of a real old English pub, hand pulled local ales in dimple glasses and side dishes served in copper pans. The menu is made up of classic British cooking with a twist & has a strong emphasis on flavours & presentation. The premise has achieved a Michelin Bib Gourmand for the last four years.

Back yet again to celebrate the Wife's birthday! Staff so welcoming and food superb. This time; Mussells, Partridge, aged Fillet Steak; washed down with some lovely red wine. A suprise birthday cake from mine hosts Johnny Hall & Marcus bennet. A really top night; great atmosphere and a decent price. It will be busy over Christmas so get your bookings... More

I had never been to The Bay Horse before but it came highly recommended. I was with my husband and two of our friends and we all had the same...mussels to start and fillet steak for our main course. The mussels, while delicious, were in a very viscous sauce, which made them very messy to eat and , in my... More

Thank you for your review, sorry to hear the mussels were not to your preference, at The Bay Horse we reduce the sauce so you have a rich jus which coats the mussels rather than a thin soup in the bottom of your mussel pot. We feel it would be a shame if all restaurants just cooked moules mariniere, after... More

Visited yesterday for Sunday lunch with my partner and his parents. The place is a little gem!! We decided to treat ourselves and got a 'winter cocktail' on the way in.. This is amazing and is a must! The food was gorgeous! extremely well presented - the best I've ever seen! I ordered ham and pea soup for starters, absolutely... More

Myself and my dad both had the fillet steak, which was cooked to perfection. The fries and accompanying sauce were also lovely, and presented very nicely - I particularly appreciated the little copper pan that the sauce was served in. The sticky toffee pudding was also very tasty, and it's worth noting that the portion sizes were perfect; big enough... More

Quite literally the best restaurant I have visited in the North East. I manage to get here probably 3 times a year but always blown away by the food and atmosphere. Beyond 5 star

Went for lunch chose the 2 course option. Portions not huge but the quality of the ingredients shone through & really portion given was sufficient. I had salmon which was very good, did think veg was a bit hard but think thats a personal preference. Wine a bit pricey. Overall all i can say is i cant wait to go... More

Back in June 2009, My wife and I viewed a property in Hurworth-On-Tees. There were bats roosting in the roof and wasps in the fascia boards. After ripping said property to pieces we went for a drink to discuss our opinions.. Stepping into The Bay Horse, we decided that we could make it work and we've lived in Hurworth ever... More

Staying nearby, we decided our 11 & 15 year olds probably wouldn't make best value of the a la carte restaurant at the hotel, so we travelled a very short distance to this a la carte pub and found the perfect solution. Part of the pub is given over to the drinkers so you can't eat in there but even... More

Previously I had visited several times for lunch and had been well satisfied. This time the family were welcoming our son visiting us from New Zealand. We were eating in the private room. The service was excellent and we created our own ambience. However the portions were unsatisfyingly small but tasty. Four of us are burly six- footers and we... More
