Sunday lunch

I went with my partner and father for Sunday lunch over the Bank Holiday weekend. The table was reserved for 1pm but my partner and I arrived late as we struggled to find the village. Luckily my father arrived on time and made sure we didn't lose our table. When we arrived nearly half an hour... read more

Come here every time we visit our daughter in Darlington. Fabulous food well worth its top 50 rating in the Good Food Guide.

We recently stayed at the nearby Rockliffe Hall to celebrate my 40th birthday. Our meal at the Bay Horse weas the highlight of our trip. The food was high quality, with well thought out flavour combinations and amazing attention to detail in the presentation. All things considered, this goes down as one of the best meals I have ever had... More

We had the Posh Ploughmans which has to be the best ploughmans I have ever had! There are plenty of different 'bits' on the plate and more than enough to satisfy a big appetite, in fact I shared mine with my husband and we both commented that we had eaten enough when we had finished. There is a lovely relaxed... More

This is very much a pub with food rather than a restaurant with a bar and all the better for it. Great atmosphere, original menu executed exceptionally well and a great pint. What more could you want?

I've said this was couples but the restaurant accommodated us with space for our 8week old son to sit and sleep whilst we ate. The staff were brilliant and perfectly managed to be attentive yet also give us our privacy. They weren't remotely pushy but continually asked if they could bring us anything else. We each had 3 courses and... More

Have eaten here at least 6 times - so it is one of the better places within a 20miles radius. But ........there are a few issues..... The restaurant decor is a little bit 1980's but I can brush that aside if the food is excellent. I disagree with comments about it being close to Michelin star standards - it is... More

Confused as to what the restaurant style was?!? Either fine dining with its white linen and candle lit tables or chic/trendy with food served on wooden boards and the tin pots for the chips. Reasonable price but again the menu was from one extreme to the other. Rather pretentious and not very relaxed.

My husband and I called here yesterday lunchtime. The staff were very welcoming and throughout our meal were attentive and professional. We both began with the vegetable and ham hock soup. It was absolutely delicious. I then had a chicken dish while my husband had the burger. Both were really good. I had promised myself a dessert but found that... More

I was picking my wife up from Darlington station when she text to ask if I'd Google and find somewhere local to eat, my response "clean version" was that "I'd rather get out of this place, I can't see anywhere nice being in Darlington " I had recently installed the Michelin Guide on my jailbroken iphone. I saw the Bay... More
