This is the second time we have eaten here and I hope we will be back again. The food is great - tasty and exciting. I had Italien bread soup - which was delicious, followed by sea bream, then chocolate in a cup with a delicious shortbread biscuit. This is a small restaurant where you feel really welcome and treated... More

Four of us had a very good meal here last night. The venison rolls were excellent as were the crayfish and dill skagens. Main courses were lemon sole and bream - very good. The burger however, was covered in barbecue sauce which in itself was OK but rather too much and overpowering. Would have been better served on the side.... More

Six of us had dinner on Saturday night and we had a truly wonderful evening. A warm welcome and attentive service throughout. The maitre d' was charming. The food was delicious. Venison rolls for starters. A few of us had the duck - I had a bite as they were drooling over it. Quite rightly, it was very very good.... More

As others have commented - this is a small country pub, converted into a very welcoming restaurant. The service was reasonable - some were excellent, others still learning. The food from a limited set menu was (mostly) excellent, and the wine list well chosen. There were some really nice touches - the jellies and salted caramels with the coffee were... More

After reading previous reviews we were not expecting particularly great service. However, we had a very enjoyable evening. The Maitre d' was very professional and our waitress was friendly and efficient but maybe a little over familiar at times! The food was excellent but agree with previous comments there could be with more veggie options.

Went here on a recommendation, as was staying in Cambridge. I was surprised that it was so small; about 6 tables only, which explained why it gets booked up so easily. The food was very nice for a pub/restaurant but not amazing. I didn't have the service issues that some other people have commented on, but one waitress really struggled... More

We were very pleased to have a really good restaurant within walking distance of home and the first few times we went, after Alex took over it was very good if plagued by erratic service. But last nights visit was probably our last. The meal was indifferent, got the desert for nothing as the main was so poor and the... More

This restaurant IS badly let down by front of house serving staff ! Food was good but............. Maitre d' was helpful and friendly but the two waitressess I did not see smile all evening :-( Our one,who looked (and unfortunately acted) like a well known soap opera character, went through the motions in a surly can't be bothered way that... We've been to the Hole in the Wall quite a few times now and we're always happy with the food we eat. This time around the food was mostly very good, but there was a notable exception with the steak that most of us ordered. I don't think I'd had poor service here before, but the poor experience started when... More
