Exceeding expectations

We regularly dine in The George, and the service is always warm and friendly. The menu seems to have changed recently and is now a bit more limited, but the ham, egg and chips is the best around - consistently good quality and swift service from the kitchen to our table. By far and away better food than the Swan , ambience probably not as good but the food is superb , the duck is spectacular, the staff are very friendly and unpretentious, a really great alternative to the Swan that dominates Wedmore !

Really friendly local pub that serves the MOST delicious food. Once you’ve had their chocolate brownie nowhere else’s will match up – you can’t tell where the brownie ends and the sauce begins it’s that perfectly cooked! The menu as it’s MUCH better than your average “gastro” with proper portions and amazing flavours, and the best part is that you... More

Loved, loved, loved this high end pub. 11 of us went to celebrate my mum's birthday & I couldn't have asked for more attentive, helpful staff which alongside the gorgeous food & atmosphere made my mum's birthday perfect! We all had various starters including dough balls for the children, ducks eggs with Parma ham and asparagus soldiers, scallops and black... More

My daughter and I were staying in the adjoining hotel overnight so decided to try dinner downstairs in the pub. I'm glad we did. A really atmospheric place with history everywhere. Obviously an old coaching inn and Wedmore is a very old village. Lovely staff and 'proper' local ales. Food was excellent with a good choice of local and seasonal... More

A great meal in a fabulous room. Our waitress was attentive and delivered excellent service. The food was of a high quality and they accommodated all of the changes we requested to satisfy the kids' tastes, which to me is a great sign of focusing on your customer,

I always start any reply to a review with the courtesy of thanking the reviewer. I regret to say I am unable to on this occasion. The comments are rude and offensive both to deaf people as a whole and to the gentleman at the bar to whom the reviewer addresses his comment. That gentleman is indeed hard of hearing!!!... More

I visited the George with two friends for lunch on Thursday, the building is beautiful and the decor interesting! The waitress was very helpful, polite and cheery, the food arrived quickly and was delicious and value for money. We had a lovely afternoon and will definitely be visiting again .

We went to the George on a Monday evening for food. We walked into the restuarant bar and the bar girl came up the stairs to answer a phone call which lasted around 5 mins and then the phone rang again and she did not even acknowledge us, although we were right in front of her. Also, we were spotted... More

Firstly I apologise sincerely that you felt this way about your visit. I have however spoken to the two members of staff present and another customer all of whom claim your version of events to be totally inaccurate. Also I was certainly not present and most certainly do not smoke!!! Even if we do not agree with your views I... More
