Couldn't fault it

Not local but know the area well so stopped at the 1st welcoming pub we saw. Went and asked if they could accommodate 5 for a Sunday lunch and they made space. Menu not quite what I was expecting, the roast was a set menu, 1 meat, 1 fish, 1 veggie, 1 starter and ice cream for pudding. Price is... read more

After previously having a good meal, we returned with family. On arrival we were told we couldnt order drinks at the bar because the barman was on his own. Sit down at a booked table, and wait 20 mins (we were the only ones in the restaurant). Eventually we get a drink and order food. Once the food eventually arrived... More

We've been using The George in preference to the nearby Swan for some time now, as it's less pretentious and better value. This last visit was a bit confusing - the feel of the place seemed somehow different, and not so welcoming. The beer was still well kept and the food(although the menu seemed somehow less interesting) was enjoyable, but... More

The George had a nice interior, very homey feel to it but unfortunately we felt a bit let down by the cleanliness of the place. Each glass on the table either had lipstick marks on it or in our wine glasses there was dirt at the bottom of one and then having received a jug of water unfortunately that contained... More

I hate to use the word 'quaint' but upon entering the pub area, that's the only word to describe the building as you enter. There are nooks and hideaways and little staircases all over. The bar is tiny, but mighty upstairs, with a great selection of wine. The restaurant food was FABULOUS, we waited a short while for the food,... More

We popped into the George, whilst waiting to watch Marcus Brigstock in Wedmore's Yurt ( sorry Opera Tent ), we lazed in the hot sun in their beer garden, thankfully free of kids and when the Restaurant opened at 6 dashed in for food A good range of food on the menu, I had rack of lamb, ( well done,... Our first visit to this pub. It was a nice sunny day so we sat in the beer garden. The garden had a play area for children, plus several picnic tables and benches. The food was fine but the garden had many piles of dog poo dotted around the garden, particularly by the little summerhouse. Some of the poo had... More

Thank you for your comments. Feedback is always welcome even if misplaced. Sadly in this case for some unknown reason it is totally inaccurate. As a result of our own observations and a couple of guest comments we have had a strict regime of daily checks for dog waste. We have also installed Dog Poo bins and provide bags encouraging... Had Sunday lunch with friends, nice old world pub will like to visit in the winter. Outdoor seating in the courtyard would of liked to see this in the old days with the stage coach & horse's. Staff were friendly & menu good.

I like the George, but recently they've stopped selling butcombe (local beer), preferring imported doombar from Cornwall. Which I don't like. The charcuterie is unbelievable, but why oh why don't they get the bloody wi-fi fixed? It used to work well, but since changes to the bar is next to useless. Let's hop the place doesn't continue to go downhill... More

We visited this pub for lunch a couple of weeks ago in the middle of a bird-watching day on the Somerset levels, and we'll definitely be going again. Earlier in the day we had gone to the visitor centre for the wildlife area on the levels and were very disappointed that our dog was banned. We won't be going there... More
