An old wine cellar in the remote historical village of Mourao, five miles from Spain, Adega Velha serves traditional Alentejo recipes such as the unique and delicious "sopa de cação" (spiny dogfish soup - yes, it is a small shark), perdiz (wild partridge), lebre (hare), carne de porco preto (black feet pig meat), among others. Reservations are highly recommended. Service... More

Excellent and delicious typical local food, men will sing local songs during the meal. Ambiance is really cosy. Very cheap and excellent quality.

A really nice restaurant with old cute traditions. All the dishes were served in earthenware crockery. We took hare, porkand some bird, which name I forgot, everything was very tasty and the interior was authentic. Also the waiters understood English which was an advantage as in near villages (Luz, Estrela) nobody understood.

Adega Velha is a small restaurant in what used to be a wine cellar (the name is literally "old wine cellar"). The ambiance is very rustic, with several giant pots where wine was stored, wooden tables and benches. The menu is rather small, having just traditional food. There is no steaks, nor grilled fish. The food is wonderful, very well... More

Adega Velha is really an old cellar with a plus... you can eat the best genuine country food from the region and drink their own wine. You can also experience a great atmosphere and a nice staff. If you are lucky you may hear some typical songs from the region (Cante Alentejano) and have a little chat with the owner.

They serve comfort food, typical from the region, perfect if it is cold. Besides that, you have the local people always having the house wine and singing the traditional song from Alentejo. It's a different experience, that allows you to go home with a big smile on your face...

The menu has just the main traditional dishes of Alentejo (6 or 7), so don't expect "gourmet" presentations and "finger food" portions. One portion serves 2 people, we had "Cozido de Grão" and "Sopa de Cação", drink the house wine and no desserts, just a coffee. The starters were cheese, local charcuterie "Paio de Porco Preto" (excellent) and olives. The... More

Wild asparagus with eggs, "codorniz" topped up by an "encharcada" could be the list for a perfect lunch. Stay long enough and you'll most certainly be dazzled by locals singing the traditional "canto alentejano".
