Fantastic experience, authentic place

Charming place for an unhurried glass of wine and a bite to eat. Wine was delicious but the whole experience around it definitely worth recommending. It is a bit like a wine cellar and a restaurant. We didn't have a full meal there but it could be good too. Lovely place with an old-fashioned vibe... read more

Reading other TripAdvisor contributors' positive comments, I decided to have dinner at this place. It was on a Tuesday evening. Already from the street, we heard very loud voices arguing quite harshly. When we entered the restaurant, we saw in the first room, some kind of a bar, a group of local elderly man in a quite violent oral dispute.... More

One of the best restaurants I have ever experienced! The environment is typical and genuine with a lot of old stuff making part of the decor. For me is simply the best restaurant in Alentejo! And the food? Not much to say...amazing, full of flavor...traditional...local ingredients...top quality! I tried the "Sopa de Cação" (local fish soup), "Cozido de Grão" (chickpea... More

It's all about the hole experience! The traditional music | singing... the wine coming directly from the huge containers, the owner who treats you as a long time friends... and the food is so authentic! It's far away from everything but the region is beautifull... Definitely a must go!

We were arriving and already listening to the chanting, typical Alentejo singing. The entrance has the bar and on weekends it is usual for some village men geather there drink the wine from "talha" made by the owner and spontaneouly sing spme songs. This with perfectly cooked meals is a great way to spend your weekend days. We had "sopa... More

This is one of my fav places in Portugal. And considering how crowded it gets on weekends, I bet I'm not alone. The food and ambience is very traditional and familiar. If you're lucky, may hear Alentejam chants. Have a licor de poejo after a meal and be happy.

An old wine cellar in the remote historical village of Mourao, five miles from Spain, Adega Velha serves traditional Alentejo recipes such as the unique and delicious "sopa de cação" (spiny dogfish soup - yes, it is a small shark), perdiz (wild partridge), lebre (hare), carne de porco preto (black feet pig meat), among others. Reservations are highly recommended. Service... More

Excellent and delicious typical local food, men will sing local songs during the meal. Ambiance is really cosy. Very cheap and excellent quality.
