It's all about the hole experience! The traditional music | singing... the wine coming directly from the huge containers, the owner who treats you as a long time friends... and the food is so authentic! It's far away from everything but the region is beautifull... Definitely a must go!

We were arriving and already listening to the chanting, typical Alentejo singing. The entrance has the bar and on weekends it is usual for some village men geather there drink the wine from "talha" made by the owner and spontaneouly sing spme songs. This with perfectly cooked meals is a great way to spend your weekend days. We had "sopa... More

This is one of my fav places in Portugal. And considering how crowded it gets on weekends, I bet I'm not alone. The food and ambience is very traditional and familiar. If you're lucky, may hear Alentejam chants. Have a licor de poejo after a meal and be happy.

An old wine cellar in the remote historical village of Mourao, five miles from Spain, Adega Velha serves traditional Alentejo recipes such as the unique and delicious "sopa de cação" (spiny dogfish soup - yes, it is a small shark), perdiz (wild partridge), lebre (hare), carne de porco preto (black feet pig meat), among others. Reservations are highly recommended. Service... More

Excellent and delicious typical local food, men will sing local songs during the meal. Ambiance is really cosy. Very cheap and excellent quality.

A really nice restaurant with old cute traditions. All the dishes were served in earthenware crockery. We took hare, porkand some bird, which name I forgot, everything was very tasty and the interior was authentic. Also the waiters understood English which was an advantage as in near villages (Luz, Estrela) nobody understood.

Adega Velha is a small restaurant in what used to be a wine cellar (the name is literally "old wine cellar"). The ambiance is very rustic, with several giant pots where wine was stored, wooden tables and benches. The menu is rather small, having just traditional food. There is no steaks, nor grilled fish. The food is wonderful, very well... More

Adega Velha is really an old cellar with a plus... you can eat the best genuine country food from the region and drink their own wine. You can also experience a great atmosphere and a nice staff. If you are lucky you may hear some typical songs from the region (Cante Alentejano) and have a little chat with the owner.
