Good old pub

I had been reading A Wicked Deed by Susannah Gregory so we decided to pop down to Grundisburgh where it is set. The Dog is mentioned in the book as serving the best food in the village so we decided to see if anything had changed since 1353.... We were not disappointed. Excellent ale and... read more

The Dog is a lovely looking pub with pretty outside seating areas and olde worlde interior. It's well managed, clean and dog friendly. The beer is reasonably well kept, although I have had the odd rank pint in the past. The food is the big disappointment for me. The prices are average but portion sizes are mean. On our last... Six of us visited for a family get-together meal on a quiet mid-week evening. Great looking pub. The restaurant is spacious and airy. Nice ales on offer. The main menu wasn't vast but there was something there for everyone's taste. There is a specials board with good options too. The food was lovely. I had the salmon, which was delicious.... More

The road had diversions on so we ended up here and we were not disappointed Lovely old world pub inside with a quality restaurant - food was superb - we have taken friends there for lunch since and the standards were just as high. £25 each for a good 3 course meal with soft drinks (well a couple of g... Had the pleasure of eating here the other day and was very impressed, I had Kipper pate to start with a pint of Adnams dry hopped lager, a perfect match, then a really nice, tasty and well-cooked Onglet steak (it was steak night with a very good choice) and wanted to have a glass of the recommended Malbec but sadly... Went there for Mothers day, and they staggered the two sittings which was a good idea given how manic Mothers Day can be, however it took 30 minutes for them to take our order and then an hour and a half for our main courses to come, which is unacceptable. I have been in the trade and understand what it... More

We visited on a Saturday evening. The pub has a nice feel to it and great atmosphere. The menu was limited but had a good range on it. The service was ok but lacked some detail. Simple things like telling you the soup of the day and the specials board. We had the prawn and pulled pork for starters which... More

The Dog was recommended to be by a colleague, and I went on a midweek lunchtime. Despite being quite late for lunch I was welcomed and I chose from an extensive menu, which included a 3 course set lunch (only available mid week). Very nice homemade food, good portion sizes and friendly service - couldn't fault it and I will... More

Had seen this in the good beer guide, but was a little way out of Ipswich. Decided we would try it out for lunch, the pulled pork bun with pickles very good. Traditional pub with local customers. Pub is in a pretty little village with a stream & ford. Also old fashioned hardware shop nearby, for those odd little bits.... More

We're local to the village of Grundisburgh so often pop into the pub for a drink and/or meal and so we're used to the good food and friendly service. We often take advantage of the themed or special nights there so decided to go for Valentines. We were definitely not disappointed! As a slightly awkward diner (pescatarian with a dairy... More
