My wife & I dropped into The Ship last year for a few drinks but were terribly disappointed because we both remembered when it was a popular, lively & friendly pub. Decor and seating were tatty, service was lousy, the drinks were overpriced and it was virtually empty. Desserts costing £5+ were very obviously a cheapo shop-bought cheesecake & fudge... More

This business has now closed down and there is a "BusinessTo Let" sign amid the waist high grass!! Prior to the last tenant, The Ship traded well with regulars and locals in both the bars and the restaurant. The carveries in particular were legendary, both in quality and value for money. Draft beer and quality wines were available However this... More

Disappointed as stopped serving the lovely carvery which was always excellent and tasty. Not as tasty now although there was a choice of various roast meat . The waiter brought the food to the table 1 x lamb and 2 x turkey which had the gravy already on the plates, all I could taste on my turkey was the gravy that... More

Went there for a family pre-christmas sunday lunch and was very dissappointed with the service, food and the overall atmosphere of the place. The waitress had a cold and kept wiping her nose on the back of her hand, the meal was under cooked and unedible. The presentation of the meals was not as expected and when we complained to the... We decided to stay local for New Years Eve, singer, band, chicken and chips supper for £5, not bad we thought, didn't expect cord on bleu for the price. The room was cold and draughty with wafts of sooty smell from the ashes from a previous open fire. We asked if a fire could be put in due to it... More

Sunday lunch carvery sounded great, but first of all there's the disappointment of being brought your food ready plated...just like in a normal restaurant really. Then you get to eat the food. JUst dull. We were a party of 3 who had the beef, lamb and pork. None of the cuts of meat were good. The lamb was pretty poor... More

We had reserved a table for 6 for 2pm, our daughters 37th birthday. We had ordered the carvery not knowing they had ceased to serve such meals. This fact was then explained to us, and also that the resteraunt had closed at 2pm, but we could join 3 other people eating in the bar. We were then given a short... More

my family and I have just had xmas day dinner at the ship, and I was slightly dubious when I made the booking having read some reviews on here and also having not been to the ship in some years, So we were all unsure what to expect but the meal was EXCELLANT, the starter of prawn cocktail was light... Stumbled on this place while out on looking for a nice little pub for a roast dinner. This s a nice pub, good parking, nice setting, beautiful building and the recent refit is pretty stunning, however the food was absolutely diabolical. I had prawns for starter and they were frozen to within an inch of there lives, tasted like defrosed... More
